Default is my player dead ??

i have a fake sony mp4 player it worked just fine but my lil brother formatted it or something and now its alll gone..i mean i can still open my mp4 players but when i open the folder removable disk on my computer the netire folder is blank.i can copy paste songs there but it doesn't play when i switch on my player..
i have tried to upgrade it through the firmware updating tool but it asks for files in firmare image file(*.fw;*bin) format and the firmware i got with the cd and mp4 player opens in notepad and hence the firmware upgrading tool does not recognise it..
what do i ??
does this mean my mp4 player is dead forever ???
please tell me wat to do so i can convert the firmware to (*.fw;*bin) format so that the tool can recognize it...
i hope someone helps me out pleaseeeeeeee!!

suicidal-glitter , so is the problem that the player functions properly, but can't play any music files? When you try playing the music files, what error message does the player show?

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

suicidal-glitter , install MP3 Utilities Disk Tool, next go to the Partition & Encrypt tab and ensure the slider is slide all the way to the Left, then click on Start to format the player.

The reason would most likely due to the 450MB being encrypted memory.
