does anyone know when or where i can find out about when the 9.0.50 firmware will be able to be extracted and used? and maybe when will start to see more of this version to download to fix dead players?

so i have a clone back up of my mp4 player before i ruined it, but it's almost 1GB! (i had songs on there still and i guess it put those in with the back up) and when i try to use that file to flash my mp4 player i get a virtual memory is low and it closes the program is there any way to edit this file to make it smaller?

I've not heard of anyone editing a s1clone image, probably because it's a relatively new program. But i doubt that you can.

If you're using Windows XP all i can suggest is to increase the 'paging' file within Windows by right clicking on 'My Computer' and selecting 'Properties'. Then click on the 'Advanced' Tab and where it says "performance" click on 'Settings'. Next click on the 'Advanced' tab and at the bottom of the window you'll see 'Virtual Memory' and what it's currently set at.
You can increase the size of Virtual Memory that windows uses by clicking on change. Now it really isn't recommended to change these settings but as long as they're higher than what is already set should be ok.
Before you do this though, you should also check to see how much free HD space you have.

All this may make no difference at all. If you're not comfortable/confident changing the values of Windows Virtual Memory thats ok and we can look for other options.

yeah i tried that one out but i still get a virtual memory low error and i made it as high as i could which was 4096 megabytes i've moved it back down now. if i remove some stuff on my harddrive should i be able to get it higher? or is that the limit do you know?

red_pen , if i'm not wrong, the raw image file created by the S1clone is not the same the usual firmware file used by the MP3 Utilities Upgrade Tool.

The S1clone typically creates a complete image of the working player with its memory chip which is uncompressed, hence the large filesize. Whilst the MP3 Utilities only writes to a certain section of the chip.

this is probably a silly question but are you using s1clone to flash it back and getting that error or s1fwx? It just seems unusual that you can create the image but not flash it back
