You made a good choice with the Teclast players, at least you can get the right firmware and they are still getting updates.

I think my next player will be a teclast or at least one that will run teclast firmware.
Well sh*t happens Anyway it was a cheap player (€ 65,- for 4GB incl. shipping), so I don't care too much

The customs have finally released my package, so I should receive it shortly (probably tomorrow or Tueday ). Just hope they won't charge me any crazy 'import fees'. The fact they held it for a week doesn't look very promising, they probably had problems determining the value

I own a Marshal ME29 running on Rockchip, once I tryed to change its firmware, but I found that it would not accept any firmware other than its own, and during this experience my player was dead several time and rescued using the short circuit (hardware method recovery) [I even had the too many bad block error, and even the NAND or FixTool could not recover it and gave me the set flash type error, Once even windows could not detect my device, So the ONLY escape was to use the hardware recover method]. Because the main rock chip is hidden in this model, I am going to explain it step by step to other guys using this device and curious enough to struggle with the firmware.

1. While opening take care cause the speaker is pasted on the cover and might be disconnected from the chip

2. The chip you are to paly with to find the recovery pins is under the sd/mmc reader part of device

3. Connect the device, run the firmware update software load the firmware included in pack CD and keep an eye to the tray

4. With the top and back of the device toward yourself move your mini screwdriver slowly on the pins on the right side of the chip

5. As soon as you saw the save remove ROCKUSB indicator in the tray, prees the update button , FINI

Good Luck

I own a Marshal Me29 running on Rockchip, I tried to use other firmwares on it but everytime I had a Dead player [once the too many bad blocks error that even the NAND or Fixtool gave me the set flash type error, once even windows could not detect it] and the short circuit 9hardware recovery method could save it Always. As the chip to use the recovery method hidden in this model, I am going to explain how to do it for the other guys using this decice.

1. While opening take care not to disconnect the speaker attached to the back cover from the chip borad (by the way two holes to screw are hidden under the front screen)

2. Connet the palyer and run the Customer Firmware Update and load the firmware incloded in the pack CD, then keep an eye on the tray

4. The chip to play the recovery method on is under the SD/MMC reader part, put the device with the top and back towards yourself and move your mini-screwdriver slowly on the set of right side pins

5. As soon as you saw the Safe remove ROCKUSB indicator in the tray, press the update button, tha's all !!

Good Luck

Help much appreciated!
Well, I am in deep dodo I guess

Updated my Onda VX858LE with the firmware for VX858.
Now the player will not switch off, touchscreen and buttons not working. By resetting the player with the USB cable connected, I can access the flash - If connecting the cable when the player is in its new "idle mode" (can see all icons etc but only the lower left button is registered when pushed, and shows icon as if the player is locked with the on/off button - when left button is pushed!) - I get a Windows message like: USB Device Not Recognized.

When I try to run the firmware update again, I get the message: No Rockchip USB device found.
I guess it is because I need to set the player into update mode...but as buttons and screen is not working ... I am stuck!

Does anyone know of a "soft way" to force it into update mode?
Like holding down the M button with USB cable connected and then reset the player...or...is there only the hard way---open and short-circuit the NAND flash

TIA!

The soft update option normally needs you to be able to work either the menu or play buttons, but I'm not even sure it will work with the newer "touch" buttons.

Does it look easy to open the player?, some members have had problems opening this type of player and ended up breaking something!. It might be worth trying to disconnect the battery first, this may reboot the player and get your buttons working.

Don't hurry to open up your player, these players are delicate inside, maybe another member knows an alternative soft recovery for touch screen.

Use hardware recovery as a last resort, the Onda VX858 is a nice player it would be a shame to break it! I hope you can get your player back..

dnul... I do own a Onda VX858.
The VX858 have a key named "MENU", VX858LE have one too, the one is between keys VOLUME + -.
With the player OFF press MENU key and hold it while you plug USB cable, keep holding it until your hear the signal from the PC announcing a device have get connected, this should put USB port in secure mode o "ROCKUSB"
If this not happen and no signal appears from USB port, then restart the PC, switch OFF the player, and do the procedure again.
It should put the player in upgrade mode, device will appear as rockusb, then follow normal procedure installing appropriate firmware.
This have to work as both devices (yours and mine) have the same buttons or keys configuration.
I bet you aren't doing the procedure with player switched OFF <--- this is really important.

Try this,

1) Switch the player OFF using the main on/off switch.

2) Hold down the "MENU" button and keep it held down.

3) Connect the usb to the player.

4) Wait for about 10 seconds before releasing the button.

5) You are now in "ROCK USB" upgrade mode!

6) Then just start ConsumerUpdate and upload your working firmware.

7) If this fails then disconnect the USB and repeat from step 2 above using one the other buttons.
