Default I miss my MP4

hi all, my first post so go easy. I got an MP4 or MVP as the package says thats kinda dead now. it was continually restrting itself (like every 2 minutes) so overestimating myself (not uncommon) i tried a firmware update to see if that would help. And so now its dead.

I read many of the posts and the player recovery guide (v. good) and followed it as much as i can. I'm up to the stage where my player is recognised as an ADFU device (almnost got the tweezer thing down to an exact science). I can install firmware from the recovery state, but it does absolutely nothing. it says it does it sucessfully, then it can't detect the player anymore, so i gotts do the tweezer thing again.

I've tried a number of firwares i've d/l from here and also tried an updated utilities pack (4.05). so i'm not sure where to go from here. With some of the firmwares, the recover update freezes on "downloading the restorable main program", and i have to end the program. Dunno if the firmware i've got is right, or what this dump business is.

My player specs are ...
Chip ATJ2093H
Memory Samsung 643 K9L8GO8UON
1.5 inch screen
Brand Laser made by Wilson Co. (Mr wilson has a lot to answer for)
Original F/W something 9.0.48

It looked like this one, but the buttons were slightly different

The the menu screen had icons of the different features down the left side, an a large icon of the current feature (wateva was selected) on the right. the colour for the "music" background was blue.

so, if anyone out there could help me (steps i should take firmware i shoulkd use etc) it would be v greatly appreciated.

P.S. this sights awesome

dante_941, there are so many different types of players with varying versions of firmware out there it can be difficult to locate the exact one. (as you may already know).
Unfortunately you'll just have to continue trying all you can find until you get the one that works. You could try contacting the person who sold the player to you to see if they have a copy of it's firmware.

The only hope i can offer is that in some cases (like mine) a different version higher than it's original can work. So if it's firmware was v9.0.48 for a 1.5 screen, you might try a 9.0.50 for a 1.5. I did this and it seems to work better than the original firmware.

Default Re: I miss my MP4

Just to confirm i've got the right idea on what to do...

1. It's recognised as an ADFU device at the moment, so i load a full f/w version 9.0.48 or higher in recovery mode.
2. Make sure it is then recognised as a mass storage device. (does this happen straight away because so far after successfully loading f/w in recovery mode the computer fails to detect anything)
3. download dump files and use s1res to see if any of then have similar menu images etc to what mine had.
4. Use the firmware upgrade utility to load a dump file which had the same menus etc to the player which ios recognised as a mass storage device.
5. Pray that it's worked!!!

P.S. hjow exactly do i use the s1res program?

thanx in advance

Basically yeah, thats what i did. Although i had a little help from a member on this forum who was having the same problem with an identical player and had found a compatible firmware file for his that worked in mine. Sometimes you'll find that the firmware you've flashed is totally incompatible and the player isn't recognized in windows. Just perform the 'dead player recovery' to get it back into ADFU mode again and try a different firmware.

You can find the s1res tutorial here > http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-mo...ool-vt206.html

Hmm, by your description i may have the same firmware, just that mine is 9.1.50 and unfortunately can't be extracted.

And no, i don't trust s1clone.
