Dead 2GB ipod nano clone - working adfu, white screen

I purchased a 2GB mp3 player off ebay from "sevenmp4", which has now stopped working. It was sold as 8GB but was a chipped 2GB (of course!)

I'm not very happy about that, but the thing worked pretty well until it suddenly would not turn on past the little hour glass. I tried running the battery out, plugging it into USB but the hourglass stayed on for hours at a time, so i took the jump to overwrite the firmware

The microchip serial numbers are:

Samsung 710
k9LAG08UOM
PCBO
CSA39620

and

AK1022 (processor?)

and (underside of board, philips logo)

tea5767
vceh30
07
dpg6493y

I just CANT find any sort of serial written onto the board. It must be under the screen or something..

It looks exactly the same as this on the outside: http://www.mympxplayer.org/image-asp364.html

And has the same graphics for the "play music" memory item. The start up splash screen is a "hello" rising out of some sort of pond.

I've been playing with firmwares from this site, but none work as yet. Several of the 9.0.50 allow windows to see the drive and edit the files, but the main screen stays white, it doesnt restore the full functionality.

Is anyone able to help?
Thanks,
:)

Re: 2GB Samsung flash - gone phut :(

Reading up a bit more... it looks like the firmware works - windows reads the disk as a flash drive.

So what i'm really looking for is the dump.bin from the same sort of player, which will restore the menus and the ability to play music?

The CD the player came with doesnt have any sort of backup that I can see, or at least none that work, so i'm relying on google and this forum i think :P

OK getting somewhere slowly....

Upgrading the disk and upgrade software to 4.05 helped a lot, and now lots of the new 9,0,50 firmwares are uploading, but none of them take it past a blank white screen (1.5").

I've seen a few posts and pics of what looks like exactly the same player on this site, but no-one seems to have a firmware

Can anyone confirm that i'm doing the right thing and that eventually if i find the right FW that it'll just work? There's nothing else i need to do?

goatherder, it's sounds like you're on the right track. There are also some firmware files available here > http://www.uxcell.com/faq.php?category=Download that you could try.

The ones i would try are numbers 37, 38, 56 and 64. However any one of those may get your player back up and running. Then again they may not but it's worth a try.

Cheers

Hmm i'm in contact with the seller and trying to get him to send firmware but i think he's stalling and being nice just to cover up the fact that he either doesnt understand what i'm asking, or plain can't do it. Lets just say this is becoming a slow and tortuous process :(

IF I get firmware sent, i'll post it here... until then on with the web search....
