You can trash it and really throw 50$ away or you can follow the dead player recovery guide and use it as a usb drive at the least and that's assuming you can't in the hourglass mode. The choice is your but a usb drive is still better than a totally useless piece of metal.

I cannot even use it as a USB drive, because my computer will recognize the device in the Device Manager, but it won't assign it a letter as a physical drive.

I am really getting frustrated over this. But next time, I think I will pay the over $100USD and go buy a real iPod that isn't hacked, and will actually hold what it says it will hold...but this time, I will be going for even more storage capacity...at least 32gig.

I am getting ready to retract my positive feedback, and contact eBay over this. There HAS to be something I can do to either get a non-hacked replacement sent to me, or get my money refunded.

Like i said if you follow the dead player recovery guide using a 9.0.x.x full firmware you should at least be able to use it as a 1Gb usb drive which is better than nothing. Yes, buying a mp3/mp4 in a store is indeed a good idea and that's what i did personally. If you manage to get something back from that ebay guy let me know cuz after seeing how clueless he seemed the 1st time i messaged him i kinda dropped the idea of getting anything from him

There's a setting somewhere in the menus to turn off the player after a certain amount of time... you should check that first.

Well, I was hoping to be able to recover the player itself. I have plenty of storage as it is, and have no need for a USB flash drive, otherwise I'd have purchased one.

I will try again with a 9.0.x.x firmware and see what happens. I still have not heard anything out of hailitele. I attempted to check on the company he claims he is sending these hacked items from ("Wen co ltd") but I find absolutely nothing. I will include all the information from the shipping sheet so others can compare.

My player doesn't boot then shut down. It simply stays on unless I unplug it from a USB or power source, even when the power is switched to OFF.

I can only hope I get this problem fixed soon.

Lolita, we cannot check that setting if the player goes to a blue screen with an hourglass and stays there. That indicates a dead player, and we are all attempting to restore our players.

Ive got the same problem before, whenever I switchon the devices it only hangs on the hourglass, even if im only charging still in the hourglass. I have the done the procedure of short-circuit the chip. I was able to revive the said player and used it for the meantime as USB driver :).

I'm using MP3 Utilities version 3.68 to flash my devices, and stop for a while to 9.0.50 firmware version.

Currently, no hourglass (only whitescreen hehe), but can be used as 2GB usb drive. Frustrating yes indeed, till one of the members release 9.1.51 version which i really needed.

waiting for smarkies actually to clone his mp4 hehe which i hope he will.

happy firmware hunting (its my partime work now hehe), if u suddenly bump one..dont hesitate to share.

Hi ismael, do you think "the dead player recovery guide" can be used to recover my player?

I think my firmware is fine, but there must be something wrong with the hardware..

Thanks for commenting, maybe there's still hope left after all? :)

Re: boots, then shuts down again.. other firmware!?

Dryad, I used 9.0.48 for firmware, and found two different dump.bin files. Now my player has a black screen whether on or off. I switched to a different USB port, and the player is now recognized and assigned a drive letter, in my case, J: ...But now I need help figuring out how to get the player to start.

The battery shouldn't be dead, because it charges while plugged into both a direct power source (wall outlet) or the computer, as it has shown the "CHARGING" screen both ways before it died.

I am thinking about trying to short the player out again and make another attempt to recover it. If it doesn't work this time, I'm chucking the whole thing in the trash.

I am also working with eBay to get something done about the loser who sold me this thing. Fraudulent information which was changed AFTER my auction...NO communication with this person anymore...I've had enough!
