I guess your right lattesurf, but I will still look for a firmware to restore my speakers.

lattesurf 27th Aug 2007 6:30 pm

mpxguy , you could continue to try various other firmwares to restore the speaker. But the recovery process is not exactly a pleasant one. The worst part is to totally brick it, and you'll need to short the pins to reboot the player.

Good luck.

I am sure that Teclast will work fine in your device... but without speakers

The wierdest thing happened. I converted a video and put it in, then it asked me if I wanted to format my mp4 player. I put yes and everything started to work perfectly.

DO NOT UPGRADE WITH TECLAST FIRMWARE

i have this player from DealExtreme:-

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5657

this is identical to the Omega from uxcell, it has all the same button layout etc, and i know its is dangerous to say they are the same with so many factories churning out these devices, but i am confident these players are the same.

i have updated my player from dealextreme with the omega firmware available from uxcell and it took it no problem, it even kept the speaker alive. I used a version of consumer update (2.81) thet i downloaded from here a while ago.

DO NOT USE TECLAST FIRMWARE

yes, i took the chance and thought i would try using the teclast C260 (CI AND NO CI) firmware so i upgraded - DEAD, a nice classic white screen of death was my only reward.

I had to take the thing apart as knobs technique of holding buttons down before plugging in the usb would not work - this was a BAD idea.

These players are very fragile and really awkward to put back together, two of the plastic screw holes holding the board to the inside of the case snapped, the power button would then not go back in properly as it kept falling behind the screen. once i patched it up and put it back together some of the screw holes holding the two case parts together broke so now the thing flaps up and down when pressing buttons

And as for hardware resetting!!! be prepared for a few fireworks as you try and short the pins, i have never heard any of these type of devices crackle before, an electrical type of buzz/crackle sound - very unnerving

overall i would say DO NOT MESS WITH THESE PLAYERS, they are great if you leave them alone, but any messing will kill them in so many ways, and if you do ANY firmware upgrading AT ALL be prepared for problems at some point - i upgrade for fun and experiment only as i have other players in my collection!!!!
IF THIS IS YOUR ONLY PLAYER THEN DO NOT UPGRADE at all

All I had to do was format my player to make it work.

you mean that your DAP is fully functional right now?

Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player

I had a look at these players and they do look just like the teclast c260, I thought about getting one myself.

There is a problem that I suspect that the touch screen is software(firmware)
driven and so is much more easily disabled that the usual buttons.

There are also leds in the controls hence the extra current required (guess)

Extra care is needed as another version of ConsumerUpdate is probably involved to support the touch screen.(another guess)

Rockchip processor itself has a small amount of memory space (fact) , possibly for hardware support (now this is another guess) that would explain why some problems persist even after firmware changes.
All interesting stuff, but it makes messing with firmware on the touch screen even more risky.

I think the lesson is as always. if you can't afford to lose it leave it alone if it's working ok.

I (and makd511), am unable to resist having a play until I break it (which just gives me an excuse to buy another player!) --- now I know what a mpxjunkie is.....

Knob,

Having proper backup of firmware, there is no risk to try to install a Teclast C260 firmware... I did it several times with a very bad machine I bought some time ago (some Zima I show in some post here, the device with the worse manufacture I've get in my hands). It never work, but by pressing the POWER button while plug USB it always recover, and I installed the original software without problems.

Rockchip devices are in no way fragile devices, they are very consistent as I have prove myself recovering my LDX LD-696 from any test I've done.

Finally, that Zima shit was replaced by the provider by a very good unbranded device that have all the characteristics of a Teclast, as soon as I loaded the firmware, the new device works fine and I gain lots of new functionalities, like managing of .APE, .FLAC and .FLV formats and FM.INI, beside the normal formats like .OGG, .MP3, .AVI, etc. this for the moment because Teclast is working all the time in add new functionalities.

In his case, new firmware ADDS new functions, like it will be managing of playlists in near future. You as a www.teclasters.com contributor, know that there is lot of people that is using unbranded devices with Teclast firmware, taking advantage of a the company that developing good rockchip firmware.

It's hard to understand why somebody have to write in red letters against an option that only can give more benefits and good support to a user.
Again, having proper backup and a rockchip, risk is not so big, doing the proper action rockchip will never turn into a brick.

I would use the teclast firmware, but I just don't want to risk my player. If there was a way to put teclast firmware with 0% of it killing my player I would do it.
