Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
Hello Everyone, I am new here at www.mympxplayer.org and I'm in need of help. I've recently purchased an OMEGA V88 mp4 player from ebay off some guy named discounttown. I bought it for 64 USD and it is a 2GB player. I just downloaded the firmware that came on the CD that was included with the mp4 player. Now, all the music, videos, and other info was deleted. Not only that, but the speaker stoped working. All I know now is that the firmware now reads 00.01.0007. I opened the player and wrote down the chip numbers on a peice of paper but I misplaced it. Im too afraid to open my player up again so if anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it.

mpxguy , you probably would have bricked your player with an incompatible firmware update.
You'll need a firmware, since discounttown is a division of uxcell, try this firmware off uxcell's site http://www.uxcell.com/tech-support-d..._OMEGA_V88.zip You'll also need ConsumerUpdate, there are a few in the downloads section http://www.mympxplayer.org/rockchip-...276-df612.html http://www.mympxplayer.org/consumer-...hip-df576.html http://www.mympxplayer.org/rockchip-...ide-df613.html Try the following steps by knob: 1) Switch the player OFF using the main on/off switch. 2) Hold down the menu key and keep it held down.(may be a different key for you but there are only 5 to try anyway) 3) Connect the usb to the player. 4) Wait for about 10 seconds before releasing the menu key. 5) You are now in upgrade mode! 6) Then just connect ConsumerUpdate and upload a working firmware and try it! ConsumerUpdate should also REBOOT the player before starting the upgrade. |

Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
Don't panic... you don't say if your DAP is working... I suppose it is... which is good and can be even better.
1.- It's absolutely normal that your device delete all was in there, as firmware have replaced that one that cames installed. This is a dirty Chinese distributors trick that delivers a cd with non-corresponding firmware 2.- That version of firmware 00.01.0007 doesn't support external speaker. 3.- Have your buttons acting differently than original?... for instance to reach option you cover upper button instead of lower one? 3.- If your device is still working after all this problems... then you can have better news... maybe you can start installing Teclast firmwares. For Omega V88 should be Teclast C260 posted here by me. If this is the case you'll be a very lucky person because Teclast firmware adds more functionalities to your DAP, delivering upgrades frequently :)... but with NO external speaker :( If you like back your external speakers reinstall the software provided by lattesurf. If you don't... go for the Teclast stuff which have more support than any other rockchip DAP inlcuding a nice fansite: www.teclasters.com Let us know what you have choose |

About Consumer Update...
It exist lots of versions, at least 5, but there are 2 series that I'm starting to understand what they means: No Dog series... just replace the firmware without any advice, which seems to be this case. Refresh Firmware series... gives a warning before proceed announcing that flash will be deleted. There are very some dangerous version like 2.4 that was the one who killed my USB port... happily recovered with the "short circuit strategy" Teclast is using CU Refresh Firmware 2.7.4 for better results. |

Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
It is functional. I am now looking for compatible teclast firmware.
|
mpxguy , since it is functioning properly i would not suggest doing anything to the firmware. Firmware flashing should only be done for dead players. With the exception of Teclast & Meizu players where the company regularly releases new firmware.
|
Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
I guess your right lattesurf, but I will still look for a firmware to restore my speakers.
|
mpxguy , you could continue to try various other firmwares to restore the speaker. But the recovery process is not exactly a pleasant one. The worst part is to totally brick it, and you'll need to short the pins to reboot the player.
Good luck. |
Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
I am sure that Teclast will work fine in your device... but without speakers

Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
The wierdest thing happened. I converted a video and put it in, then it asked me if I wanted to format my mp4 player. I put yes and everything started to work perfectly.

Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
DO NOT UPGRADE WITH TECLAST FIRMWARE
i have this player from DealExtreme:- http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5657 this is identical to the Omega from uxcell, it has all the same button layout etc, and i know its is dangerous to say they are the same with so many factories churning out these devices, but i am confident these players are the same. i have updated my player from dealextreme with the omega firmware available from uxcell and it took it no problem, it even kept the speaker alive. I used a version of consumer update (2.81) thet i downloaded from here a while ago. DO NOT USE TECLAST FIRMWARE yes, i took the chance and thought i would try using the teclast C260 (CI AND NO CI) firmware so i upgraded - DEAD, a nice classic white screen of death was my only reward. I had to take the thing apart as knobs technique of holding buttons down before plugging in the usb would not work - this was a BAD idea. These players are very fragile and really awkward to put back together, two of the plastic screw holes holding the board to the inside of the case snapped, the power button would then not go back in properly as it kept falling behind the screen. once i patched it up and put it back together some of the screw holes holding the two case parts together broke so now the thing flaps up and down when pressing buttons And as for hardware resetting!!! be prepared for a few fireworks as you try and short the pins, i have never heard any of these type of devices crackle before, an electrical type of buzz/crackle sound - very unnerving overall i would say DO NOT MESS WITH THESE PLAYERS, they are great if you leave them alone, but any messing will kill them in so many ways, and if you do ANY firmware upgrading AT ALL be prepared for problems at some point - i upgrade for fun and experiment only as i have other players in my collection!!!! IF THIS IS YOUR ONLY PLAYER THEN DO NOT UPGRADE at all |
Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
All I had to do was format my player to make it work.

Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
:D
you mean that your DAP is fully functional right now? I mean with external speakers too? :) |
Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
I had a look at these players and they do look just like the teclast c260, I thought about getting one myself.
There is a problem that I suspect that the touch screen is software(firmware) driven and so is much more easily disabled that the usual buttons. There are also leds in the controls hence the extra current required (guess) Extra care is needed as another version of ConsumerUpdate is probably involved to support the touch screen.(another guess) Rockchip processor itself has a small amount of memory space (fact) , possibly for hardware support (now this is another guess) that would explain why some problems persist even after firmware changes. All interesting stuff, but it makes messing with firmware on the touch screen even more risky. I think the lesson is as always. if you can't afford to lose it leave it alone if it's working ok. I (and makd511), am unable to resist having a play until I break it (which just gives me an excuse to buy another player!) --- now I know what a mpxjunkie is..... |
Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
Knob,
Having proper backup of firmware, there is no risk to try to install a Teclast C260 firmware... I did it several times with a very bad machine I bought some time ago (some Zima I show in some post here, the device with the worse manufacture I've get in my hands). It never work, but by pressing the POWER button while plug USB it always recover, and I installed the original software without problems. Rockchip devices are in no way fragile devices, they are very consistent as I have prove myself recovering my LDX LD-696 from any test I've done. Finally, that Zima shit was replaced by the provider by a very good unbranded device that have all the characteristics of a Teclast, as soon as I loaded the firmware, the new device works fine and I gain lots of new functionalities, like managing of .APE, .FLAC and .FLV formats and FM.INI, beside the normal formats like .OGG, .MP3, .AVI, etc. this for the moment because Teclast is working all the time in add new functionalities. In his case, new firmware ADDS new functions, like it will be managing of playlists in near future. You as a www.teclasters.com contributor, know that there is lot of people that is using unbranded devices with Teclast firmware, taking advantage of a the company that developing good rockchip firmware. It's hard to understand why somebody have to write in red letters against an option that only can give more benefits and good support to a user. Again, having proper backup and a rockchip, risk is not so big, doing the proper action rockchip will never turn into a brick. |
Re: Need help with my new OMEGA V88 mp4 player
I would use the teclast firmware, but I just don't want to risk my player. If there was a way to put teclast firmware with 0% of it killing my player I would do it.

Just don't use it... no reason to take risks... when you has another DAP then you can try any option... It just another way to enjoy a device. Enjoy your machine :D Did you noticed I've sent you that firmware? |
