Default blue screen with a yellow hourglass

My husband purchased a hot pink MPx player that resembles the iPod Nano for my birthday. It arrived VERY quickly. I followed the initial instructions for the player. The seller did not include a CD because they claimed the drivers were out of date.

I had to format it one time. Up until a couple days ago, I had had no other problems with the player.

Two days ago, I turned my player on. It started normally, and played until roughly song number 54 of 56. I tried to skip back one song, and it would only skip to the beginning of the song I had been listening to. I tried to skip forward, but it did the same thing. So I did the only thing I could...I turned the player off.

I turned it back on later in the day to remove some of the songs and load it up, only to see a blue screen with a yellow hourglass in the center of the screen. The player has done nothing else.

I had previously attempted to figure out the firmware version to see if it needed an upgrade. The program I was told to get would NOT allow me to upgrade the firmware, and would stop responding before the process was started. I had all the current drivers installed.

I attempted to use the dead player guide to revive my player, but unfortunately, my player does not have a front and/or back cover. It is a solid piece that wraps around the unit. I unscrewed the bottom (the only two screws on the exterior), but could not remove the inner parts for examination. I even had my husband try, but the components just would not budge.

Both the desktop computer and my husband's laptop recognize the player as a USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU Device AND a USB Mass Storage Device. Both are working properly, according to the Device Manager. Both install generic drivers. But the player won't do anything. I then tried to install new firmware, but the Upgrade Tool will stop responding after it gets so far.

I am including a picture of the MPx player, which I retrieved from the eBay auction that my husband won. Incidentally, he bought the player from eBay user HAILITELE, who I noticed yesterday was added to the list of people selling hacked MPx players. We did not know this, or we wouldn't have bought it.

I sent a message to the seller regarding this problem, but have not yet received a reply. Will keep my fingers crossed, and will post any correspondence I receive.

If anyone can PLEASE explain to me how to get the internal components removed from my player so I can fix it and make sure I get the right firmware, PLEASE let me know. It's almost as it someone GLUED it to the inside of the case!
