Hi all!

Scatwell, i think the .sys and .drv are the files to be replaced, but it's pretty messy, there are lots of files there :/. I'll dissasemble the drivers from the dump and try to see which one is the display one :).

Scatwell,

Research done :). I found out that the display drivers are called ui_xxxx.drv. Basically all the files that start with the ui_ prefix (User Interface) and have the .drv extension are drivers for the display. But there is a flaw in our logic: Lolita's firmware was only for 1.8 inch screens. I'm not sure that they will work on a 2'' screen like yours but you can try and see what happends.

Cheers!

Also you need to change the graphic, ui30.res.

scatwell 24th Sep 2007 4:53 am

:-) Well we are getting somewhere I think. I actually got some legible (although not really sharp) graphics (the menu) by just changing the ui*.drv files. When I also changed the ui30.res file I still got the menu graphics but the buttons & functions were all wrong and all sorts of random things were happening. A bigger problem is that although (using both of these modified fw's) the device booted, it could not be recognised as a flash disc, so I had to short it back to adfu mode.
I think I just need to keep on trying different combinations from different firmware...
Do you think the screen size is actually relevant or do you think its the pixel resolution that needs matching?
But thanks Alex & Lolita there is I'm sure some steps in right direction & I'll carry on trying to mend this baby.

Resource name in ui30.res must match name in AP.

This is looking more and more confusing and complicated - like a "can of worms" as we'd say in English!

It looks to me as if the firmware components are not independent of each other, which is going to make finding the right combination about as likely as winning the lottery. The ui30.res file is about 4MB, and so is a major component of the firmware. I think it contains all the .bmp graphics elements/pictures which is probably why its so big.

I will keep on trying but I'm not very hopeful. I think there's a better chance of finding a full firmware one day rather than trying to construct one, but hey, it was worth trying. The other thing that's confusing is the mix of chinese & english in some of the documents in the official Actions firmware packs, I cannot translate any of the chinese - maybe that would help, but I suspect it might not. Thanks to all those who have taken interest in this - I will keep trying - if there is anyone out there with a Glacier or Glacier lookalike (see http://www.mympxplayer.org/images/av...edf6dc8f08.jpg or similar for the type/look)
with screen resolution of either 220x176, or even 128x96, could you upload firmware, or a dump.bin of it, or an s1clone image?
Cheers...

Hi!

ui30.res must NOT be changed from one firmware to another as lolita suggested ;). Why? Because it does contain all the firmware's resources. But not all firmware versions have the same number of graphics inside or strings in the laguage table ;). You just need to mod the drivers until it works, that's all. About that adfu problem... I tried to interchange things from my firmwares and every time I recompile the files, the firmware gets a bit changed and triggers an error (bug in s1fwx). I'll keep this under research.

That i'll have to agree. The ui130.res is TOTALLY different for each firmware. Some maybe the same, but most are different. i did try to swap the ui130.res file in the past to make theming easier, but it does not work. My player would end up with a blank screen. As the graphic names/orientation and as well the text strings are different.

Hi people,

I program C sometimes, and own a v9 s1mp3. I'd downloaded the firmware source, and I am wondering how can I compile it.
What tools do you guys use?
