Hey your welcome, i'm glad it ended well. Movies is easy. Just download the latest avi converter software from the downloads section (tools. page two, avi converter 4 in English) set it to the resolution of your screen and the qualtiy you want and it'll convert just about anything you throw at it, and it's pretty fast.

Yea updating is usually bad news unless it comes from the company itself. Theming can be fun though, and it's fairly safe. There's a few Rockchip firmware editing programs around (they actually just allow you to edit the pictures found in the firmware, not the OS-level stuff) so you can change the look of the player.
