Dead ONDA vx858 copy

Hi, i have an onda vx858 copy (it looks the same, it has(had) the same menu).. on the front of the mp4 player is written I'deko.
ok, i tryed to update the firmware with the program called firmware update, i opened a c260 rfw firmware update and bloked the player, it couldn't be closed anymore and the touchscreen stoped to respond. I followed the dead mp4 player guide and it recodnised again my mp4player so i could update the firmware again, i installed the vista rfw and now when i open the player it's the vista menu but the touchscreen doesn't responds. i think i need the full firmware.. i was thinking to buy the same mp4 player again and extract the firmware and put it on the bloked mp4player... i don;t know.. it has a rockchip rk2608a b75941 0739. if anyone has the correct firmware or one that can work...

GOSH!!!!... you did use a Teclast C260 firmware in an Onda VX858 player!!!???

Sorry to say you are doing everything wrong: anyway, do the same trick again but this time install a VX858LE firmware if it this is the type of player.

Rockchip player CAN'T be extracted its firmware. you just need the one supplied by the provider. Go to the provider and ask him the firmware.

here is an explanation VX858 vx VX858LE... the problem is that VX858 using VX858LE firmware get locked and vice versa... show menu but buttons are locked... to recover them it's needed to open the case and use short-circuit method.

Here is Onda ftp Onda FTP

you mention 3 chips: Rockchip which is the processor. Etron Ttech which is the BIOS and Samsung 731 which is the Flash memory. Wolfson is a small chip black with letters WM on top, it could the the black square on top at the left. should look like this http://zaurus-ja.sourceforge.jp/imag...c700/audio.jpg. with a different number. On the right a little below of this is another black square which could be FM radio.

Anyway you have nothing to lose by trying a VX858LE. With the player already opened you can short-circuit Samsung 731 chip to recover your player.

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

i tryed :
Vx858_V2_V00.02.0017.rar 1588 KB 9/26/2007 4:38:00 PM
VX858LE_V1.0.40.rar 1573 KB 10/23/2007 11:19:00 AM
VX878_v2_v2.0.5.rar 1628 KB 10/20/2007 10:20:00 AM

i open the mp4 and the touchscreen is freezed.. when i connect the mp4 with the usb , on the screen it's a usb sign or something like that, i think that when i had the original firmware the usb screen was different :o

Ok... at this stage you just need to try other firmwares... try VX868 which have the same screen than VX858

I've seen a photo of your player I'deko LK 028 and It's unbelievable that firmware of Onda VX858 doesn't work on it... anyway... try Onda VX868 in the same FTP I sent you.

The player is not dead as it allows you to update firmware... you reach menu screen but touch panel don't work...
each time you put a new firmware menu screen changes, showing the new firmware... isn't so?

oldno8 22nd Nov 2007 5:33 am

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

well yes, everytime i install a firmware it shows the screen with music video games fm.. and so on, but the touchscreen is blocked... so i guess until an rockchip firmware extractor appears or i find the right firmware, the player is dead..

DaremoS 22nd Nov 2007 6:23 am

Answer this precisely please... each time you load a firmware it shows corresponding menu... for instance when you installed VX868 appears VX868 menu?

Did it show the initial sequence of loading the software?

I wonder if the connection between the screen and the processor is ok... I mean electrically

DaremoS 22nd Nov 2007 6:29 am

Maybe you can try resetting the Bios Flash with the NAND tool... download it from here NAND tool

oldno8 22nd Nov 2007 10:39 am

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

when i load a firmware and put it into the mp4, i open it, it says init system or something like that and then the menu appears, i think that everytime the menu was the same.. it looked like the original firmware that i had but the letters are in chinesse. i will try resetting the bios flash and post here after i do it.

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

i opened the nand tool, i can't even see the full window.. :x

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

change screen resolution just to see the program... this program could solve your problem

oldno8 22nd Nov 2007 3:57 pm

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

oh damn, i think i have another problem... the computer can't recodnise the mp4 player as usb rockchip.. i can't update firmware or anything like that, it says usb device not found... when i resuscitate the mp4 player the computer says new hardware found, new hardware installed and then the port screen appears it says unknown device.. and also near the clock a window pops up and says device has malfunctionead... i think i fuc;ed up the mp4

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

Your player is not fucked up!

That's normal... don't get depressed

Read the following first Rockchip recovery guide

sonsofliberty 24th Nov 2007 8:18 pm

I used the NAND Flash tool to clear out both of my NAND Flash RAM Chips, and updated with every single Firmware that ONDA has to offer, and my touch screen is still dead, however, it does boot up normally, and showed System Init... Screen everytime I reflashed the firmware....

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

hello,
first pls excuse my English, im not so good at writing.

I got one ONDA vx858 (last month) and i upgraded yesterday to v0017. for my luck i used the v1 version DaremoS posted here, later i discovered that there are 2 versions. So i want to ask what are the differences and how can i identify my version.

oldno8 pls pm me.

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

It's supposed to be written in the back of case in SN... you don't read something like ...v1...... or ...v2......?

I do put 00.02.0017 and I listen some noises using it, which can be understood as difference between versions rely on the manufacture and materials used. None of them affecting directly the functions of the player.

If you feel comfortable and happy with the version you have then it's ok for you no need to change it... anyway you can do that without problems. Both firmwares have the same functions.

Anyway size of modules are different. V1 is 15195 kb and v2 is 17335 kb. I have couldn't find in Onda BBS why this differences.

r0tt3en 25th Nov 2007 9:08 am

thanks DaremoS for your quick answer, i looked at back case but its only : Model VX858 Memory 2GB SN: VX858EGGV101791, thats all. on the box in which the player arrived its the same code.

I installed the firmware you uploaded on other thread, 0017 + vista skin and it works fine, i just wonder if its made using v17 from the onda ftp server. pls tell me also : the"official" v17 interface is like the old v16 ? What issues they resolved by releasing v17 because the old v16 was fine except the wake up from stand by issue which is also present in v17.

So ... its really strange not to know what version of firmware to install. i hope the guys from china will improve the way they work with clients. i hope they will continue to update all versions not only the v2.

thanks and best wishes

Come on!... all the information is here. Confirmed... your player is v1 as is stated here: VX858EGG V1 01791, made in EGG = 05/07/07 and was the 1791 player model VX858 made for Onda :)

v017 is a new breed of firmwares completely different of previous versions. probably v017 is not fully implemented yet, but is the base for future releases.

Old version of editors require a new pattern to work with it... I think that indeed in the firmware are functions not publicly released... but are in the code already.

r0tt3en 25th Nov 2007 12:11 pm

well now that you told me that i just have a V1 im a little disappointed (im not so good at reading SN codes). I hope they will release soon new firmware for V1. im very curios what they changed in the hardware for v2 ( maybe v2 is just another LE). some info on v2 are welcomed.

You are in a mistake you have the best VX858, V1 is the top of VX858... it has Wolfson DAC, it's like my VX858.

If you have my firmware installed then you have v00.00.0017 which is the best.

So be happy and enjoy!!!

Re: Dead ONDA vx858 copy

thanks,
i admit im very proud i installed your version, it looks really nice :). good job posting it. now i just hope onda guys will make soon the modifications u mentioned earlier.

sorry for offtopic
got one little question :P. can we upgrade the internal flash memory by changing flash chip on board ? someone tried to change chips? im sure there is somewhere onda vx858 with 4G internal flash.

thanx.

jo gobel 26th Nov 2007 12:45 pm

the onda vx858 does come with a 4gb option, so it is possible to change the 2gb to a 4gb

however, it is most likely not an easy thing to do and your going to need an extremely precise soldering tool to do the job.

i personally wouldnt do it.
