Default hourglass infront of a blue screen

Hi. Well my brother bought me an MP4 player for christmas and I believe he got it over the internet. Well that was September 23. Just about 2 days ago I put it to charge and left to school and when I came back it just showed an hourglass infront of a blue screen. I tried connecting it to the computer but it would not recognize it as anything. I really need help please because it's a pretty good MP4 player. I am willing to do almost anything. No matter if it's reformating or anything. I would reformat it but since my computer did not recognize it I can't. I have tried draining the battery completely and recharging it but it only shows the freaking hourglass. Here are some pics of what it looks like. It is an 8GB MP4/AMV/REC/FM player. And it is not one of those fake memory's. Before it went dead I actually put more than 1GB.

Please I am willing to do anything. I read the recovery but I am not sure if it would apply to my MP4 player because it is a bit different.

just because you put more than 1gb on it doesnt mean anything.

sometimes it will be 1gb faked to 8gb, sometimes its 2gb faked to 8gb, and even 4gb faked to 8gb's.

the only sure fire way to know if it wasnt faked was to do the tests on it.

as for fixing your player, i wish i could help. i am sure someone here can and will help you start the process of helping you fix it.

good luck

Richyboy1989 , as jo mentioned, it is very likely that your player was hacked. In most cases, by storing files above the actual capacity it would increase the chance of firmware corruption and disabling the player. As these files are stored over the firmware area.

Your solution now is to do a Dead Player Recovery, guide here http://www.mympxplayer.org/dead-play...ide-vt567.html
to attempt to reboot the memory chip.

Also, you'll need to check for the processor's serial number (eg ATJ2085, ATJ2097, etc) to be able to locate a possible group of firmwares.

At the same time, you can identify the memory chip's real capacity by looking for the serial number, they are usually either Samsung or Hynix brand.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

Ok well thanks for the info. As far as the memory goes right now I'm not very concerned with that. Right now I just want to get my player going and then worry about the memory. First I did the things to recover it and now my computer recognizes it as ADFU device. Now I need the firmware. I tried two of them that i downloaded but when i tried installing them it went installing the firmware for like one hour and it only got half ways. Could someone help me find the a firmware that will work. The Memory Chip is ATJ2091N. Thanks for all the help.

Well it didn't show any error message. I just cancelled it after an hour. And if updating is going to take more than an hour I might as well and try with a firmware that might work instead of a firmware that I got no idea if it'll work. So if someone knows of a possible firmware that might work with my MP4.

Alright so here's my story. Well I was doing that recovery thing and when i was touching the memory chip all of a sudden my mp4 screen went black. So i guess now I can't see anything. What sucks is that just for the hell of it since it the computer still recongnized it i tried a firmware and it installed. Then i tried windows media player and it recognized it to. So i succesfully recovered it but now I can't see the screen. And then after formating it, it said it was only 982 mb. So i guess it was hacked. I thank everyone that helped me and oh well i knew that i could possibly mess it up more. Oh and before my player went dead i formatted it a couple of times and everytime it said it was 7.99 gb just as the product said. And everything else was recognizeing it as 7.99 gb. So my last question is was it really a 7.99 gb or when i mess with it the memory went to 982 mb,

if u want to know the exactly capacity of ur flash memory, decode the model number printed on the chip.
i.e:K9G8G08UOM(K9=NAND flash,G=MLC,8G=8Gbit,08=8 block,U=operating voltage,0M=normal 1st gen package)just 8G/08=1G.
