Veho VMP-006 broken
Hi all,
I just got a Veho VMP-006 mp4 player for Christmas. After having a problem or two with the menu system, I tried to upgrade the firmware using Mp3 Player Utilities 4.13. It told me it was sucessful, but now whenever I load the player all I get is a blank white screen. I emailed Veho about a week ago, and have yet to get a reply. My question, in short, is whether I should attempt to fix this myself. Is it likely that I'll be able to fix it? Or am I more likely to invalidate any hope of getting a replacement if I can't get it to work? A few details: Mp3 Player Utilities recognised the player (and the firmware as v9.0.48 I think), allowed me to select a firmware file to upgrade to (the one from the correct file on the Veho website, v9.0.50), and allowed me to upgrade, telling me it had been sucessful. I have tried to do this again, in the hopes that this might fix it, but to no avail (again, it tells me it was sucessful but nothing changes). Windows (XP) recognises the player and lets me browse the files on there, so it isn't totally screwed. I didn't back up the old firmware version. Thanks for any help :) Alex |
*Bump*
No-one has any idea? :( Basic question: How easy is it to fix a player with bad firmware? |
all i can say is that if you installed the firmware that actually came fro the veho site then they are to blame
you should contact the straight away and complain. it is not easy to find a correct firmware as there are so many players out there that look the same but use totally different firmware also there are many firmwares out there with the same number but they are not the same so it is risky to say the least, just look around this site you were actually lucky in having a manufacturer that provides firmwares, thisis rare and if it did not work from them then it will never work did you use player update program from veho to do the update? i would ring and complain as it is possible that they have uploaded the wrong firmware sorry if this sound negative |
Many thanks for the reply - negative is fine, I'd rather that I was told that it's risky to try and fix it myself before I decide that it's probably easy and break it further.
Both the firmware updater and firmware itself came from their website, for my player, so it's certainly clear that something is wrong somewhere. I've sent them another email, slightly more angry, and hope that they reply. Otherwise I'll try and get a return or get trading standards or someone involved. Thanks again, Alex |
Re: Veho VMP-006 broken
Hi,
I know this link hasn't been active for a while but I noticed you referred to a firmware updater that you got from the Veho website. I've looked for this and can't find it - can you let me know where you got it from or alternatively email me the file ? Thanks |
