Turn on, get hourglass and no drive letter assigned
 

Hi - I have one of these items:

8GB 8 GB 3rd Generation MP3 MP4 FM Photo Player Silver

Now, it worked fine for two weeks; and now when I turn it on - I just get an hourglass.

When I plug it into my PC - my PC recognizes that something has been plugged in, but I get nothing in terms of a drive letter, etc..

I did open it up and run a tweezer around the pins of the chip - sure enough it resets - but I still get the hourglass - and nothing on my PC.

What info do you guys need from the device to help me - and what should be my next move?

Hi - Using the various threads on this forum, I have managed to get the ADFU device in my Device Manager.

Knowing what MP3 player I have from my first link - can someone advise on what tools and firmware I can use??

take apart your player and post whats inside of it..written characters i mean.especially the board id.

There are two chips (one big and one small). The bigger chip has some sticker on it that it quite difficult to get get off.

The smaller chip has the following:

AK1025
7K019AB 1K7

Does that help?

On the board itself - there is the following too:

D3C34L1D C41

Do I need to scrape off the sicker on the bigger chip?

okay..no need of scraping..is that all info you can give..is there something on the side of the LCD like CM50011?..something like that..is there a warranty from your seller?is there a chance you can ask for a full firmware?..

There is no warranty - this guy doesnt respond to emails either.

I am covered by Paypal, but i have to foot the postage costs and I am not guaranteed the full refund. So I could end up losing more than I put in; as I have to send it back to China.

I did ask him for the full firmware - but nothing.

Is there not a generic firmware that I can use? Probably not, but thought it worth asking.

yes there is a generic firmware you could use..cause China players uses generic firmwares..u know..:)..can you find the board id of your player and post it here..and LCD #..it can be found at the side of the LCD display..posting all infos of your player may can help us find a suitable firmware for it..

zrock - i have taken it apart as much as I can. And I cannot see any board number.

I have the following for the number on the side of the LCD:

TGS177SHOO-2

That is it.

If I loaded an incorrect firmware what would happen?
Based on the type of mp3/4 player I have what sort of firmware would you suggest I try?

did you look under the LCD?

It probably says G-18A-Main-V0.3. I've got one like that (mine is also dead), but I haven't got the firmware...

Hi there nsm,you can try to register at that chinese site but just once.Use google translate.That site accepts only one registration/one IP address basis and you can download only a single file.

So here it is, the firmware everybody's been searching for:

It's a 9.1.52 firmware for MP4 players with the G-18A-Main-V0.3 Board, TGS177SH00 screen and the AK1025 chip. I don't know if it goes for all of them, but my player is a 3rd gen Ipod nano clone with a real ipod connector.

I couldn't upload it here so I uploaded it by a file hosting service.

I am using MP3 Player Utilities ver 4.05
When I use the upgrade tool. I get the message ' it is in recover state....select firmware'

When I select the firmware and select 'Recover Firmware'

I get the message: Read or Write device information failed. Please exit and check device is connected.

It is connected however....?

I couldn't update with Upgrade Tool 4.05, but with 5.09. I'm not sure but I think the player was installed as an USB-drive and not ADFU.

Thanks for the quick response knasen - though I think my device has had it.

I just tried 5.09 and I dont even get the 'Begin Upgrading' button highlighted.

Also, I am not getting anything on my device - it is just a black/blank screen. Even though I get the 'bing-bong' when I plug the device into a USB port (have tried 3 different ports). Nothing...I think it is proper DEAD.

Hold on there - have just shorted the chip a per dead recovery guide - tried the firmware again - using 4.09 though.

I am getting closer now - it comes up though restars immediately. Though I see it coming back to life.

Thanks for the firmware - I think I am close to full resusitation soon.

So i have the exact same problem (blue screen+hourglass, connection as something other then USB drive. Interestingly the 3.7volt battery is charged to 4.2 volts at the moment)

My screen says: XY-1.8TBN-KMA
Board: HAIYU M618-V1
Chip: Actions AK1025
Screen connecting cord: ROHS XY-1.8B-V1

If someone could point me towards the proper firmware i would be greatly appreciative.

FM - small chip: spt si3661an

In begins i have a blue screen with hourglasses, but after a bad firmware my player in first detecting the flash but in next moment my PC cant see it.

Please help me to find right firmware and say me what i must to do with my new trouble.

I have had this problem for so long,

I can't seem to upgrade my 3rd gen MP3/Mp4 cause of the hour glass image and every time I connect it to my computer, it never picks up or notice it.

Please help

P.S. I tried downloading MP3 Player Utilities ver 5.09 but it gives me a rar. file and I don't know what to do from there.
