my player displays disk error, cant play music. radio plays.

just a backgrounder. the unit was stucked with the hourglass when the unit is turned on. since i got another unit, same specs since its a same model, bought on the same store at the same time, i checked the working unit's firmware. downloaded the fw from s1mp3 site, flashed it to the malfunctioning unit and it worked. the unit now boots with menu, Windows can recogize it as usb mass storage device (962mb). i can even copy files on it but once i access the music,movie etc menus it displays a disk error message

Okay,so formatting is no use.Maybe its a hardware problem.I' m referring to the Flash chip.

a 10k resistor connect to flash memory is open circuit.

This is how I solved it:
1. Reset the chip as descibed in the "Dead Player recovery guide".
2. Update the firmware with MASS PRODUCT TOOL (that is, not "MP3 Upgrade Tool".
3. If the player still doesn't work, reset the chip again and update the firmware again but this time with "MP3 UPGRADE TOOL".

Let me know if it worked!

I'VE been using my digital MP3/MP4 player ( 2GB )
with firmware version:

9.0.50
2005-01-09

After sometime of not using it, it produces disk error.
I thought it just ran out of battery (LOWBAT). So I tried to recharge it for hours
When I tried to turn it on, the menu is there and working but
when I access my music files, all i get is DISK ERROR!!!
from 2Gb it was reduced to 46Mb.

I connected it to Windows 2000 machine, it recognized
my mp4 player but says NOT FORMATTED! I tried to format it
for several times, it doesnt correct the error.

DISK ERROR ulit !!!

I accessed the SYS SETUP menu then
selected the ONLINE mode...
then played with the options from there ...
I selected NORMAL mode then
formatted it again on my WinXP machine using FAT file system
the DISK ERROR was gone. the 2Gb was restored.

I can now use my MP4 player again.

You should go ahead and do so if you haven't already, especially if you bought your player off of eBay. Disk errors usually are the result of hacked memory.
