Default mp3 generic player doesn't work properly

Hi i just bought an economic mp3 player very much like the ipod in terms of look and functionality.
I was transfering some files but i had the very bad idea of removing it from the usb cable without doing the safe removal procedure (it's such a pain in the ass!)
Now i have many problems: the player is recognized, some files are transfered and it can play them, but more often then not i get corrupt files in the player, or i transfer 200 and i get 89 in the player, half of which don't even play
Windows doesn't let me delete the files at times, because it also happens that bogus copies of the files are created, so i have to format it to delete all files
When i see the firmware version i get this
mp3 player bksd91n12_10

I think the unsafe removal has damaged the file structure of the player, but shouldn't the format fix this?
What can i do? I've read the tutorial to upgrade the firmware but it seems very complex and im afraid to worsen things
Can anyone help?
Thank you
