if you have the identical or same player you can use s1clone.Have a look at the site below for infos how to use it.

Thanks for your advice and kind help! I will try and post the firmware when success...

My problem is the explorer cant identify the player..... The driver and the device manager see as ADFUU device, but nor the explorer...

Any idea?

if a player is in ADFU(recovery) mode it can't be detected on the explorer.

In the discription of s1clone:

"now connect the damaged player. therefor you have to bring it at least into ADFU mode (maybe you have to short-circuit the memory chip). take care you have the actions usb driver or, even better, the libusb/swan usb driver installed. finally write the extracted flash image and with some luck you will own another working device!"

Frequently Asked Questions

The application fails to run!

the application expects the "libusb0.dll" to be present either in the application path or inside window's "system32" folder. this dll is attached to the s1clone archive, inside the "usb_driver" folder. if not done already, please copy this file to the location where you have extracted "s1clone.exe" before. instead, you could also install the libusb driver which will automatically copy the needed dll to your windows system32 path.

What to do on the "Semaphore Timeout has expired" exception?

it seems this problem isn't caused by the player, but by the computer itself. some usb ports (maybe v1.1 ports), don't work properly with the libusb/swan driver. using another computer to clone the player may fix this problem.

"if a player is in ADFU(recovery) mode it can't be detected on the explorer. "

but in the deadplayer recovery guide I have red that it should see in the explorer, because needed to format it...or something I misunderstood?

Thanks for your great help!

Other question: if I have a new player, can I make a backup of the firmware just in case?

And to publish here for the others

Yup absolutely misunderstood. What i mean is that if your player is in ADFU mode you can't access it as a REMOVABLE DRIVE.You can't format it cause its still in ADFU mode or RECOVERY MODE.Only the DEVICE MANAGER can see the ADFU.But if you have flashed a compatible firmware and it works for your player it shoould be detected in the computer as a REMOVABLE DRIVE,so thats the time you can format it.Got it buddy?

Yes you can use Wire's tools the s1fwx to extract firmware but only supports version 3.xx.xx firmwares and for v9 firmwares is still on development.

Wire's tools can be found here www.s1mp3.de
