Default Possible battery failure??

Hi All...Well my clone is not actually dead but half dead!!
In Jan '08 I bought what I thought was an Ipod in Bangkok it lasted about 2 weeks and after reading through this very helpful site,I managed to get it going again with some F/W I downloaded from here...THANKS VERY
MUCH.

My problem is that the F/W was not the same as it had when I purchased it.In the menu it has IPOD at the top. This is not the problem but when I plug it into my wall charger it comes up with a pale grey screen, blue line at the top,in the middle of the screen is a green battery(does this indicate that its charged)?? Also the buttons for things have changed
When I removed the player from the wall charger(been on for two days) the player is DEAD AS!!

Is it possible to cook or damage the battery as it had only been used once or twice before it crapped out.
Any enlightenment would be most appreciated.
Mr Bean
