Dead chip?
 

sometimes when i turn my player on i either get a white screen,a black screen, or it loads up fine but with corrupted images. is it a dead chip?

Does your player play at all now? or does it lock up?
Did you try formatting the main memory and reloading your songs?

sometimes it works then some times it doesn't. also when it is plugged into a pc its says "unknown device"

I don't think the chip is dead, but there could be a bad connection somewhere inside the player. or it could be the firmware got corrupted.

Afaik the Kpac never got any firmware released so trying another firmware would be risky.

You could try posting the board and screen number for sfw1 and see if he could find a matching firmware from an unbranded player, but I would only try this if you get desparate as you could kill your player.

also now i cant even format it. when it is recognized in vista it says it needs formating then it says that it cant format it.
