Default Not sure if I'm in recovery mode

Hi all,

I am spitting blood trying to recover my dead (though brand new! Arggh!) MP4 player. After shorting the chip many times and not being able to install the adfuUpdate.inf thing (keeps telling me it does not fit the device or something), I took the advice found on one of the threads here and installed the MP3 Player Utilities package from this site and tried the "recommended" option after flashing the chip.
It successfully installed a driver, called Actions USB 2.0 (HS) WinUSB device. It does not show on "my computer" as a USB stick or anything of the sort. I tried installing several different firmwares which were all incompatible, but I wanted to make sure that at least the first step was completed successfully... Was it?

Thanks!

Oren

What's the board ID and CPU?

CPU is AK1025, AL077AB. Not sure where I would find the board number.

Look on the PCB for any markings, e.g. something like "ZX-6012M TLS 4.0"

Note: FR4 or 94V0 doesn't count. Those are PCB fire-resistance ratings.

Ok, found it (it was on the back of the PCB and there were two screws I missed before...)

Looks like an exact match for your board.

It does not work (MP3 utilities tells me it's an invalid firmware). Again, I am just note sure if I got the player in recovery mode. Any way to make sure?

If the player is detected as ADFU device, it is waiting for firmware upload.

Try a different version of the utilities, some may not be compatible with all versions.
