MP4 Player not working

Hello Guys,

one of my firends has a 2 gig mp4 player (ipod clone) that someone bought for them as a present. It comes in a see-through plastic case and has the name iWave written on the case and the player.

the player looks exactly like this:
http://etronicsland.com/bmz_cache/9/...ge.322x320.jpg

the book that came with it is more like a badly translated sheet of paper and does not give much help.
it uses a USB connection similar to the ipod and has a power (on/off) switch next to the slot. when the switch is off the player is off and when the switch is turned on, the player only shows a hourglass.

now, when the hourglass is static and does nto animate. every minute the screen will blink off and then come back on to show the hourglass.

when i connect the USB cord to the PC, the player is not detected by the computer. I have tried it on two computers and still not detected.

can someone help me to remedy this? how can i get it to be detected by the computer?

The hang on hourglass always means broken firmware. You'll need to pop the thing open and post the board ID to find out which firmware you need, then lolita will be here to help you.

dude, i got it opened and had a change of heart. i held the top button and center button down for a count of 6 with the player on (showing the hour glass) and when i release the buttons, it came back to life. gonna try to back up the firmware now
