Hourglass on fake ipod nano..

Hi guys,

I know this has been posted on here somewhere before, but one of the admins said I should start a new topic. So here goes.

I have a fake ipod nano. Looks like the 3rd generation apple ipod.
It was suppose to be 8GB and turns out to be 4 GB instead. I have a few of these and 6 of them are giving me the hourglass screen of death..LOL

The ones that actually work are recogonized by my PC when I plug them into usb port.. The hourglass ones are not..I hear the sound of the device being connected, but the drive isn't there...so I don't know if I can fix these or not..I'm assuming that I can't, seeing as how my PC doesn't recogonize them

OK here's what I could figure out from the ones that work:

Made by Wilson Co. Ltd
Type: S1 MP3 Player
Firmware version:
2007/06/06
9.1.52
GOLZI_S75
2006/06/08

Under the hood..LOL I'm not sure what it all means, but I'll explain each best I can. Here goes..

On side & under screen: TGS177SHOO

Under the menu buttons:
GOLZI
G-18A_Key_Vo.6
2007-12.08

On the main board it says D3C34L10 C41

There are 3 larger black chips on the board each have the following.

Top left chip says:
Hynix KOR
hy27U V08BG5M
TPCB 803A
MTUJ9539MO or a Q not sure, really small..

Next chip says:
(SPT) in a circle..under that
SP3767HN
06GS17

Next Chip says:
AK1025
7K092AB OKR

It's just as well if all the lettering was in chinese, I'd probly understand that more then I understand how to decypher the chip & board info..LOL

Any help getting these to play music again would be greatly appreciated..
hourglass just hangs forever & I've tried all the reset tricks, battery charge...etc..no luck

Thanks in advance
Jason

I don't know if I'm breaking the rules for posting a link to an outside forum, but it shows detailed inside & outside pictures of the player I have..

http://64.233.169.101/translate_c?hl...61TafRofdLc-6w

I think my biggest problem will be getting my PC to recogonize it..
if someone could help me get around that it woud be a great start,

Thanks
Jason

Re: Hourglass on fake ipod nano..

You have the quite common Golzi G-18A.

Are the working ones identical to the dead ones (check the inside to make sure, that everything is the same except for e.g. production dates)? If so, you can try s1clone. The dead ones are probably in ADFU mode and waiting for firmware.

I think they are identical in every way except the production dates.

I tried s1clone, but I don't know how to create an image file for the working player...Do you???

Thanks

ftanl 14th Feb 2009 4:17 pm

Hi, I've tried to use the S1clone thing again & I get an access denied:OO error

V9.device detected!
giveio version: 3.0
open flash at CS-LINE1
Flash Chip: a555D5AD " Hynix/Samsung 2048MB (LBF)" ( protected=0)

I don't know what any of this means...
The players were sold as 8GB and the memory hack told me there was really only 4GB & now it says 2048MB confused...

any ideas..someone said I had the quite common GOLZI G-18A...if it's so common why can't I find any info on it..???

Thanks
Ftanl

Hi, I haven;t done very much with them yet...Still waiting for a helpful reply.

When you plug yours into your PC does the PC recogonize it? mine doesn't.

Does it hang on the hour glass forever? mine does.

I have a working one here that's exactly the same model & type..I can clone the good one to the hourglass one, but I don't know how..

Hopefully someone will be able to help us..I just downloaded a firmware that might work...I'm gonna try it anyway. Will let you know if it works!

Computer cannot detect mine too and it is constantly hanging on the hour glass!!!Really annoying i cannot do anything with it.My sister-in-law just gave it to me and after downloading some songs and started playing on it it suddenly goes to the hourglass thing.

Please let me know your updates, really of great help.

Thanks a lot.

I'm not 110% certain either..

Mine has Golzi G-18A_key_Vo.6

It's made by Wilson Co. Ltd
Screen # is: TGS177Sh00

The first thing we need to do ius get our PC to recogonize the device is plugged in..Then we can try to update the firmware..

There are thousands of post on this site & without somebodys help I doubt we'll get these to play music anytime soon.

I'm going to look for some How to guides for the problems were having..will let you know if I find anything.

Ftanl

vhone601 14th Feb 2009 6:14 pm

Thanks a lot for the info.Maybe i need my player screwed.I will open it and try to find out the #'s stated.
Thanks again.I'll be back as soon as i opened it.

ftanl 14th Feb 2009 6:28 pm

Here's a link for the how to guide for updating firmware..

http://mympxplayer.org/how-to-update...ayer-vt46.html

We can't use it, because our PC doesn't recogonize the MP3 player...

I can't clone one of the good MP3 players to the bad ones, because the S1clone software doesn't support 9.x.xx MP3 players..

The first step is still unsolved for me..HOW TO GET MY PC to RECOGONIZE the MP3 player?

It will recogonize the Good player, but not the hourglass ones....If I can figure out how to get my PC to recogonize it I know I can fix it from there..

Identical in every way except the hourglass ones aren't recogonize by my computer..Any ideas on ho to fix that..I need a How To Guide for Dummies..LOL

vhone601 14th Feb 2009 6:37 pm

My dead player was visible in the Device Manager.Go to My Computer right click select Properties then Hardware then device Manager. It is located under the Other devices and the name is Unknown device.I am figuring out what to do from there. It has a few buttons to click on.I tried to click reinstall driver but as i had said i have no driver downloaded yet.I do not know if downloading some driver will let me correct it.I am looking for the right driver that i do not have any idea yet.
Maybe some whiz here can help us.

ftanl 14th Feb 2009 6:48 pm

Hi, mine is not being picked up at all...didn't see any unknown device in hardwar properties.

did your MP3 come with a disc? maybe a driver on there could be useful..although XP is suppose to recogonize it anyway..

I've spent roughly 12 hours over the past few days trying to figure this out..need to take a break..

Let me know if you find anything useful.

Ftanl

vhone601 14th Feb 2009 7:21 pm

i do not have the cd of the player when my sister gave it to me it is only the player and the earphone. And i am not using XP mine is windows 2000.

PLEASE USE ONE THREAD PER ISSUE!

Newer version of s1clone supports 9.x version device. You must run it under administrative account.

Hi, Guys I just wanted to let you know I have mine back in action...not fully tested yet, but my Computer is picking them up & firmware is updated..which looks alot better then the original..

I had to find the Firmware from here:
http://mympxplayer.org/full-firmware...152-df800.html

I used the MP3 Player Utilities 4.15 from here:
http://mympxplayer.org/mp3-player-utilities-dc44.html

Then I used this recovery guide to get my MP3 player recogonized on my Computer.

http://mympxplayer.org/dead-player-r...ide-vt567.html

Man I feel like a million bucks!!! I put a lot of effort into getting mine working....I hope they stay that way for awhile....

Re: Hourglass on fake ipod nano..

Keep the firmware in case you need to recover in the future, and since it works for your player you can now change the interface with s1res and not worry about it being the wrong firmware.

ftanl 15th Feb 2009 10:43 pm

I just wanted to add some additional info for you vhone601

Go to System/Hardware tab/device manager and check under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

If you see USB 2.0 (HS) ADFU Device DON'T take your MP3 apart and do the recovery process.. You don't need to do the recovery, because the player is already in ADFU.

Simply use the firmware & MP3 utlities below & follow the instructions..You'll have your MP3 9.1.52
up in no time..

If the current one looks good and works for you, then no reason to change. But otherwise, look in customization board of this site for more information.

Hello Jason,
I tried downloading the firmware but i cannot execute the file it has the extension ".fw" What does it mean? What am i suppose to do with it?
Thanks!

Hi, I'm guessing that the extention .fw means FirmWare.

Did you download & extract the 4.15 tool? if so open it and click on the MP3 Player Upgrade Tool

Then click on "select new firmware file" browse & find the one with the FW extention & it should read file & write to your player..

If the tool doesn't operate correctly...your device isn't in ADFU mode or the MP3 isn't recogonized..or you might need a different upgrade tool..

Try the steps that I used & let us know if it worked.

I have a different player here now that I've got to troubleshoot..The other ones are working better then ever..Good Luck!

Hello
i tried the recovery guide but it still isnt showing as ADFU device. After using the tweezers, all i get is a white screen. It is still showing under the "Other device" Unknown device. Was it because my unit is not configured properly with the Removable Drive?Because i tried my Canon cam usb in my computer's port yet there is no F: drive(removable). All i got is the twain driver but F: drive not visible under windows explorer.
I can't update with the MP3 Utility since it is nor detected as adfu device.
Urghhhh.

ftanl 18th Feb 2009 7:56 pm

I'm thinking you have to load the ADFU driver for the unknown device.. not sure of the exact steps u need to take, but I think the ADFU file in in the WINDOWS.. try updating the driver..

I have the same problem your having on the other MP3 Player..will let you know how I fix that one as soon as I figure it out..

Yes i think i need to load ADFU driver. And really don't know how to do it.There is no USB 2(FS) ADFU Device under my USB device manager. Please let me know if you have some solutions..Thanks Jason!

ftanl 18th Feb 2009 8:22 pm

I think the how to for updating the ADFU driver is in the recovery guide..

There is an ADFU driver in the downloads section. I'd download that & then update the "Unknown device" with it...then I'd try a fW update..you got nothing to lose..

I tried several things before i got the right combination of tools & files..get your PC to recogonize the MP3 & your good to go..

Is your's identical to mine in every way??

vhone601 18th Feb 2009 8:54 pm

yes i guess so..I have these specs:

(ON THE BACK)
hynix KOR
HY27UU08AGSM
TPCB 825HA
MTUJI047JQ
03C4110

AK1025
8F007AB0FB

SPT
SP3767AHN
08DT11

(I saw this in the front screen)
GOLZI
G-18A_MAIN_VO.6
2007.12.08

(and these one on the upperside of the LCD)
CYCWO210807 06-B

ftanl 18th Feb 2009 9:02 pm

Everything except the LCD # looks the same.

If you can get it to show as a ADFU device you will have it working in no time..

I'm hardly an expert considering I came here a day before you..Maybe one of the guys with 5 big juicy apples can help..

You should be able to get it into ADFU by using the recovery guide.. or by downloading the ADFU driver from the downloads..

Good Luck!

vhone601 18th Feb 2009 9:08 pm

I had downloaded ADFU driver unzip it and came up with these two files:ADFUUD.sys and AdfuUpdate.inf.My problem is how to use this one?
I tried right click unkown device/properties/install driver and selected the ADFU that i downloaded but it says no driver found.

I had to use a paper clip on the sides of hynix chip in order to get it to show up as a ADFU device..You might have to do it a few times before it shows up..then load the firmware..

I'm still working on my other player...can't find firmware anywhere.

vhone601 18th Feb 2009 10:14 pm

Thanks a lot.Ok i will do it a few times and find out what will happen.

vhone601 20th Feb 2009 6:41 pm

Jason

Thanks so much for the download links.I used all of them and got my ipod back now at least better.

Please if you have your ipod themes, can i have it?My player is showing white screen.I do not know what to do, i am getting confused of the themes posted on this site im afraid i might use a bad theme.

Thanks a lot.

ftanl 20th Feb 2009 7:18 pm

Hi Vhone601,

Did you download the firmware I used? If you did the theme would be included within the firmware.

Which firmware did you use?

What is the screen # on your player?

If your player was exactly the same as mine you should have the hourglass on startup followed by the apple logo & then your main menu..

Let me know exactly what you've done so far & I can help..

ftanl 20th Feb 2009 7:19 pm

You got the right firmware, but different screen # then mine..That's probly the reason why you see a white screen only..
