I feel such a fool - Dead RK2706 Onda vx757 Clone

I just received my shiny new Onda vx757 clone, a spiffy little RK2706-based player fresh from Hong Kong.

After having read about all the scams of fake memory capacities, I decided to try to check my player. I did some reading, stumbled across the rkusb.tag trick, made sure to back up my original firmware, and proceeded to format the hidden firmware partition.

Since this is a RK-based player, I couldn't use the "MP3 Player Disk Tool" program, and tried using Swissknife, as recommended by another user here. I was able to format the hidden partition, but I was not able to re-partition any part of the drive. "Oh well," I think to myself, "It's probably got the full capacity." I then accidentally unplugged the device, causing it to power off without a firmware.

It then refused to power back up, although it would still connect to the computer and show the main on-board flash memory. Using RK27DM, I am able to successfully reflash it using the M29 firmware from another thread, but the device then resets to a white screen. When I try to install the correct firmware, either manually or using RK27Upgrade, the device only resets to a black screen of nothingness.

I suspect this has something to do with Rock27Boot.bin, but I don't know which version I should be using for my device. I've tried everything I can think of, including Knob's hard reset trick, and right now I have a shiny new paperweight for my efforts. Any help?

all you can do is to try different version of the update tools and different RKW firmware files until it resets to the original boot program for your player, loading upo the M29 may have caused this problem now

can you get the original firmware back onto the partition at all

also there is a cleaner tool here

its for onda but its for rockchips really, give it a run and see and then try this method rather than load upo the m29 firmware

mainly the bit about getting the hidden partition active and the drivers installed

I had the exact same thing happen to me, had a black screen and my original firmware didn't work, even though I could access the partition.

I fixed it by using the right Rock27Boot.bin, I've got quite a collection of Rock27Boot.bin's now, I'll send them to your PM rather than upload them as they are for dead player recovery only.

Re: I feel such a fool - Dead RK2706 Onda vx757 Clone

Nevermind, it's sorted now.

Using RK27DM, I was repeatedly able to gain access to the firmware partition. After updating to the M29 firmware, I performed the rkusb.tag trick, then manually updated to this firmware, intended for a device named Kingzon, and lo and behold, the device was able to reboot and display graphics. Vertically flipped graphics (upside-down and backwards), but graphics nontheless. Taking this as a good sign, I then updated to my original backup, and now the device works fine. Or as well as it did before I lobotomized it.
