Player Not Allotted Drive Letter In ADFU Mode ???

I am stuck with a dead player shown below, the player does not boot beyond the Hourglass logo, I tried the Recovery guide here and installed the ADFU drivers, now windows detects the device and shows the safely remove hardware button but it is not displaying anything in windows explorer, also MP3 Utilities is not detecting the player without drive letter, Pls. guide what to do next.

That is correct. ADFU is not U disk. It is only for uploading firmware to the device.

Open it up and post the board ID and CPU, or alternatively find them and search for firmware yourself.

I am hesitant opening this up as it belongs to my friend, any other way to grab the ID.
