Default Player stops working. When I turn it on, nothing happens & screen remains blank

Boy... sure wish I had found this site earlier.....

I have a Coby MPC815-16G (see http://cobyusa.com/files/hi_res/MP815_HR.jpg).

Every few days, it stops working completely. I try to turn it on and nothing happens. The screen remains totally blank.

If I plug it in to my PC, instead of the screen showing the message:
USB Connected
... I get nothing on the screen at all. However, my PC recognizes the device as an external hard drive. But it is supposed to be recognized as an MTP device.

Anyway, the only fix I've been able to find is to reformat the drive and start all over.

I've been glancing through the forums... would a firmware upgrade help? Anyone have other ideas? The current System Information is:
F/W: 2.2.3-20090220
Total Space: 15.692GB

There is also a "hidden" folder named SYSTEM with the following files:

FILEINFO.DAT
FILSORT.DAT
HOLDON.BIN
PLSTAT.DAT
RKFSWFRC.FRC
SAVE.BIN

Default Re: Pls help

The "RKFS" suggests this is a Rockchip player... open it up and see if that's true.

Which one is it? 26xx or 27xx?

Normally the firmware resides on a different partition... it showing up on the main partition suggests either you've accidentally found a way to extract firmware from RK26xx devices or something is terribly wrong with the device. Those filenames don't look like regular Rockchip firmware filenames either...

It simply says: RockChip USBDISK USB Device

The drive has a single partition. The only "special" files I see are in the SYSTEM folder:

If I reformat the drive and start over, things work fine... until the next time I try to sync or add new files. I've tried both MTP and MCP modes
