TGS177SH00... ok, now we know the controller type.

Let's confirm the backlight connectivity. With the firmware which makes your player get detected as U disk installed, plug it in and run s1giveio v1.4 (download here: http://mympxplayer.org/s1giveio-df1004.html). It should detect your player and set it to ADFU mode.

Run the following commands:

Code:

o f0 24
o f3 4

Try each of the following commands one after another, and stop when your backlight turns on (post which one did it)

Code:

o ee 2
o ee 4
o f2 4
o f2 20
o f4 4

If it was either of the first 2, then the following command should turn it off:

Code:

o ee 0

For the second and third, this should turn it off:

Code:

o f2 0

...and for the fourth:

Code:

o f4 0

You can then exit s1giveio with the 'q' command.

I could only download the V1.3 from the s1giveio's homepage.
I am getting a database error from the link you posted.
And I'm getting a message: "Error: failed connect to the device" when I try to use the s1giveio.

v1.3 will NOT work, that's why I specified v1.4.

None of them gave me a black light; the screen goes either bright white or total black. The command that makes it go black was o f2 4, so I used o f2 0 to turn it off, right?
Unplugged to the USB, the screen goes white light, and total black if I plug it to the USB.
I also noticed it used to need to be switched on to be recognized as a flash disk, but now after using the s1fiveieo, it is recognized even if it is switched off.
Does this mean anything important?

If I understand correctly, o f2 4 and o f2 0 should turn your backlight on/off, is this the behavior you're seeing?

No, more acuratelly, none of the commands made the screen show a black background with a glow, which I believe is what you mean by "blacklight".
I saw something like that once, one of the first times the played died because I used the wrong firmware. That time I though the problem perhaps was the battery needing to be recharged, so when I plugged the charger to the wall, I saw the screen glowing black. But this hadn't happen again since I'm using the firmware I am using right now.

Do o f0 4 and o f1 0 first. The new firmware you have might've disabled that output.

Done; but still no blacklight.
By the way, can s1fiveieo be used to copy firmware from a player?
I was thinking I could perhaps find around someone with the same player, ask it borrowed, and copy it's firmware to install it on my player.
Would that work?

s1giveio is used to manipulate the hardware directly. With enough patience and persistence I suppose you could read each of the pages of the flash out, but there are better tools for that: s1res v4.1 will be able to extract the 9.1 and 9.2 firmware only, while s1clone can make a complete copy of the flash --- I believe the former is more appropriate in your case.

Finding someone else with a BO-25002 and TGS177SH00 is a different matter altogether.

Yes, for various reasons, that option is not going to work.
But, I tried again to see what would happen if I tried to recharge the battery, and now I can confirm it shows the blacklight, only when I plug it to the wall, but not when I plug it to the usb.
So, are there any real chances to bring it fully back to live?
