Yet another dead Ipod Nano Clone.

Hello there. Thanks for stopping by and by any help you may give me.

This is the deal: I received an MP4 player of the now infamous Ipod Nano Clone, with the hope I could find a way to make it work again. Currently, after trying some firmwares, after following the steps from the Dead Player Recovery Guide, the screen is all black, but the device still works as a flash memory.
This is the device:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...2/Image0-2.jpg
Has a ship that says "Samsung 731" and the square one under the battery that says: "K1025"
The firmware that makes it somewhat kinda of works is:
LSC_91N207H_A1_NT75751_LS_9.1.52.bin
Which I downloaded from here.
And by the way, this monitor really sucks, so I don't know if the picture is or not as dark as it seems to me,
so, sorry; please let me know and I'll submit a more lighter one.
Thanks to whoever may help me.

There's a quite prominent BO-xxxxx board number in the upper left under the ZOC logo and you didn't post it?!?!

Nishido 18th Jun 2009 7:18 am

It's BO-25002
Please give me a break; this is the first time I ever try to
fix one of this devil machines. I am absolutely flying blind here.

...and yet you were able to read the much less legible markings on the CPU and NAND flash...

Anyway, try these:
S1fw.com - Mp3|Mp4|Mp5|PMP|Player Firmware!

Nishido 19th Jun 2009 6:02 am

I though, since my experience on life, that the ones harder to read, had to be the ones I would most desperatelly need to know.
If you find my logic weird, you most surely are a nice normal person.

Thanks for your help. I'll try those firmwares right away.

Nishido 19th Jun 2009 8:08 am

Most of the links are dead, the ones with Chinese characters
on the file name specially.
From the others, the MP3 Player Upgrade Tool
only accepted the first one I downloaded,
which was: BO-25002 CS1813B2F2 LSC_91N207H_A1_TD018(TB);
and my little monster keeps the same:
black screen and working only as flash disk.

I tried others, among the two at the end of the list (page 2),
which had Chinese characters on the file's name,
but the Tool said: "file protocol is not the same as the firmware before"
and closed.

I am starting to believe my problem is nothing that can't be fixed
with a sledge hammer and a trip to Radio Shack.
(Too bad I can't afford any of those two)

Your display has a different driver/controller. Post part# of the display.

Nishido 20th Jun 2009 6:42 am

Sorry for being this troublesome, but I have no idea of where I could find what you are asking me to post.
I did a search on the forums to see if I could find someone who posted how do you find that number, but all I had found was post from you asking for it.
I really appreciate your help, and hope I'm not being too annoying.

lolita 20th Jun 2009 8:40 pm

Look around the edges of the display, on the connecting FPC, etc.

However, you mentioned that you're only getting a black screen, not even a backlight. This could be because your player has a different connectivity --- see if you can find the display part# first, and then we'll have to determine the connectivity manually.

Nishido 22nd Jun 2009 6:57 am

I found a serial number printed in dotmatrix on the upper side of the screen: TGS1 77SH00 071014
This is the only one I could find.
And I had noticed that if I switch it on, or when I plug it into the USB, the screen goes bright white for a couple seconds, and then goes pitch black again like if the player were off.
Is this information helpful?

lolita 23rd Jun 2009 12:48 am

TGS177SH00... ok, now we know the controller type.

Let's confirm the backlight connectivity. With the firmware which makes your player get detected as U disk installed, plug it in and run s1giveio v1.4 (download here: http://mympxplayer.org/s1giveio-df1004.html). It should detect your player and set it to ADFU mode.

Run the following commands:
Code:

o f0 24
o f3 4

Try each of the following commands one after another, and stop when your backlight turns on (post which one did it)
Code:

o ee 2
o ee 4
o f2 4
o f2 20
o f4 4

If it was either of the first 2, then the following command should turn it off:
Code:

o ee 0
For the second and third, this should turn it off:
Code:

o f2 0
...and for the fourth:
Code:

o f4 0
You can then exit s1giveio with the 'q' command.

Please post your results.

Nishido 23rd Jun 2009 8:57 am

I could only download the V1.3 from the s1giveio's homepage.
I am getting a database error from the link you posted.
And I'm getting a message: "Error: failed connect to the device" when I try to use the s1giveio.

lolita 24th Jun 2009 12:57 am

1 Attachment(s)
v1.3 will NOT work, that's why I specified v1.4.

Also, try this link instead: RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

Or from the attached file below.

Nishido 25th Jun 2009 8:33 am

None of them gave me a black light; the screen goes either bright white or total black. The command that makes it go black was o f2 4, so I used o f2 0 to turn it off, right?
Unplugged to the USB, the screen goes white light, and total black if I plug it to the USB.
I also noticed it used to need to be switched on to be recognized as a flash disk, but now after using the s1fiveieo, it is recognized even if it is switched off.
Does this mean anything important?

lolita 26th Jun 2009 12:53 am

If I understand correctly, o f2 4 and o f2 0 should turn your backlight on/off, is this the behavior you're seeing?

Nishido 26th Jun 2009 8:10 am

No, more acuratelly, none of the commands made the screen show a black background with a glow, which I believe is what you mean by "blacklight".
I saw something like that once, one of the first times the played died because I used the wrong firmware. That time I though the problem perhaps was the battery needing to be recharged, so when I plugged the charger to the wall, I saw the screen glowing black. But this hadn't happen again since I'm using the firmware I am using right now.

lolita 26th Jun 2009 8:16 pm

Do o f0 4 and o f1 0 first. The new firmware you have might've disabled that output.

Nishido 27th Jun 2009 8:52 am

Done; but still no blacklight.
By the way, can s1fiveieo be used to copy firmware from a player?
I was thinking I could perhaps find around someone with the same player, ask it borrowed, and copy it's firmware to install it on my player.
Would that work?

lolita 27th Jun 2009 6:26 pm

s1giveio is used to manipulate the hardware directly. With enough patience and persistence I suppose you could read each of the pages of the flash out, but there are better tools for that: s1res v4.1 will be able to extract the 9.1 and 9.2 firmware only, while s1clone can make a complete copy of the flash --- I believe the former is more appropriate in your case.

Finding someone else with a BO-25002 and TGS177SH00 is a different matter altogether.

Nishido 28th Jun 2009 7:51 am

Yes, for various reasons, that option is not going to work.
But, I tried again to see what would happen if I tried to recharge the battery, and now I can confirm it shows the blacklight, only when I plug it to the wall, but not when I plug it to the usb.
So, are there any real chances to bring it fully back to live?

lolita 28th Jun 2009 10:17 pm

Try o f0 24 and then o f2 24. Then, o f2 0 should turn it back off. If your backlight doesn't turn on or off, then I will be quite surprised. You might have one of the rare devices which need two I/O ports to control the backlight.

In case you're wondering why I'm making you do this, it's essential to figure out what the connectivity of the hardware is before we can find a proper firmware, and the first thing to check is how the backlight is connected.

Nishido 29th Jun 2009 7:32 am

o f0 24 causes no reaction, o f2 24 causes the white light to go on and o f2 0 to go off again; still the only thing that makes the blacklight go on is what I said about try to recharge the battery, but that doesn't seems to indicate anything useful, right?

lolita 30th Jun 2009 1:12 am

Quote:

o f0 24 causes no reaction
Correct, that just enables the outputs (GPIO B2 and B5)
Quote:

o f2 24 causes the white light to go on and o f2 0 to go off again
That's great, because that is the backlight you're turning on and off!

Now that we know that BO-25002 needs 2 control lines for the backlight, this matches up with the entries in the connectivity database that I have and we can assume that the other lines to the display (reset and A0) are connected the same. You shall thus try this firmware:

Download

Nishido 30th Jun 2009 6:49 am

Didn't worked. This firmware only makes the light go on and off like an emergency light; and the device is not recognized in any way by the CPU.

lolita 30th Jun 2009 10:58 pm

Do you get an hourglass?

According to what what we've done with s1giveio, your hardware connectivity is exactly what I should expect that firmware to work for. That is, unless your display controller is not really what I assume is in a TGS177SH00 (Sitronix ST77xx/"Big Philips"-style controller) from inspecting other firmware for the same display type.

If you want, we can use s1giveio to figure out controller type too.

Nishido 1st Jul 2009 6:51 am

Now that you mention it, I hadn't ever got an hourglass on this device; on the recovery dead player guide, it shows a picture which indicates that at one of the steps, the hourglass should appear, but in my case all I got was the same white screen and nothing else.
And yes, please, lets use the s1giveio to figure out the kind of controller.
My only other option is a travel to China.

My MP player is not working

My MP is a nano clone i think. I have look for the firmware but cant find it. My problem is that when I try to open the music files the pl;ayer restarts. Before that happened it did opened but claimed the disk was empty, but I could see the music file but all i can see int it was chinnese letters. The software cd that came with the player is corrupted. Any help is appreciated.
This is the firmware according to the player. TY.

So, this is it? There is no way to fix the darn thing, eh?
I guess this is the right time to give up.
Thanks anyway.
