AK2025 FW ver 9.5.54 Disk Error <--- the original thread. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |
Create a single partition on the device which is slightly less than 8GB (7.8GB to be safe).
|
How would I go about making the partition? Never really needed to do it before so I never learned how.
and Thanks for the reply. |
Hello? Is there anybody out there?
|
Alrighty so I found it out on my own. Using the link below just follow the steps then reformat. Works fine now. Posting in case anyone else has this problem.
BootIt – Lexar USB Flip the Removable Media Bit Tool | Portable USB Pen Drive Applications |
I downloaded the utility, but it still won't format my mp4 player. What did you do?
My player was working fine until I got curious and tried to reformat it, using the HP formatter. *kicking myself in the ass* |
Open up the bootit program then select the drive letter for your mp4. Then click the flip removable bit.
I tried it again and it was a little bit of a pain in the ass. You may need to click the format button in bootit. bootit always crashes on me when I do this then I flip the bit and format it. Just mess around with it until you get the format to go. |
I messed around with it for a while, I finally ended up erasing all the partitions with Paragon by accident... Then I had to use the HP utility to format it again in a way that the BootIt program and the mp4 utilities program would recognize it. I eventually went into the mp4 disk tool thing and started messing with the re-format and partition tools. Like you, it would only work if I formatted the 'normal' space to about 17mb. I messed around in BootIt some more, but that didn't help, so I went back into the format tool and started playing with the re-partitioning thing. I found that I can get it to work just fine, unless I format it's normal space bigger than about 1gb, so I'm thinking I might have a 1gb player.
I have the same chipset and firmware as you, but I haven't cracked it open to look at the actual chip yet, so I'm not sure if it's real memory or not. Sure seems hacked to me... I guess i'll just keep trying. thanks for your help |
It just started working again, for some reason. I think I might have downloaded a different version of the mp4 player tools when I was trying to find a decent AMV coverter yesterday, maybe that's what did it? I don't know. But it's recognizing all 8gb again... no clue if it's actually 8 or not, but still.
I did notice that in BootIt, it shows up as a 1.8gb drive. Maybe the chip is a hacked 2gb? I guess i'll just have to copy a bunch of crap to it and see what ends up corrupted. :) For anyone else that had this problem, I used mp4 player utilities or tools or whatever version 4.0 |
I bought this thing because I wanted to replace my FrankenH10, my little Iriver that i made from a bunch of broken things. So, it made sense to copy all 5gb of stuff I had on there to the new one, which I'm trying right now. I wasn't going to post until I was done, but it says it's going to take 3 hours, so I'll just leave it for a while, I guess. I still think it's hacked - I'm gonna put money on 2gb-4gb.
Hinro, how did you verify that yours had 8gb on it? (just out of curiosity, cuz whatever I did didn't tell me anything except that I don't know how these players work XD) |
Okay, so an interesting update: I started copying oodles of stuff to it, and it got to 928mb and stopped. In My Computer, it has gone back to saying it's only 928 mb as well, so i'm thinking that i just have a hacked 1gb chip. But i'm going to try again...

lol that's what i ended up doing. Mine's a Dynix (related to hynix?) d27uag8t2mtr. Says 16g on it, but according to all the google sites it's a 1gb chip, and if I make the partition any bigger than that, the player won't read anything from it, so I'm now pretty sure that it's 1gb. (thanks, Binh)
Oh well... 1gb player that plays videos for 20 bucks... i guess that's not bad. :) |
Linux Lsusb
I dunno if this helps but in Linux you can just do a lsusb (there are tons of livecds out there that will give you a console to type this!)
in mine I just typed lsusb root@1:~# lsusb Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 002: ID 10d6:1101 Actions Semiconductor Co., Ltd D-Wave 2GB MP4 Player / AK1025 MP3/MP4 Player Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub note the important parts of the 16GB MP3/4 player I have 10d6:1101 shows me the necessary identification 4 digit codes to identify it! so pretty much 10d6:1101 Actions Semiconductor Co., Ltd D-Wave 2GB MP4 Player / AK1025 MP3/MP4 Player the rest are empty usb spots on my computer. SO I know right away since it identifies itself as a 2 meg mine is defiantly been modified! I think I will post a post on how to identify with linux |
Thanks, i'll try that. I think I still have an experimental debian server lying around somewhere...
haha in windows, it identifies itself as all kinds of different things, depending on the program. So far i've gotten everything from 8 gb to 4gb to 2gb to -21mb, whatever that's supposed to mean. Didn't think of looking at the usb identification in linux, though... UPDATE: ok, so I tried it, and it identifies as an 8gb player. I'm guessing this is because of the new Actions 2025 chip, or the new firmware. but thanks anyway, it was a good idea |
For the record, this is what I got:
NEW 8GB MP3 MP4 Slim 4th Gen Player FM Media Video USB - eBay (item 260442576051 end time Aug-06-09 07:16:55 PDT) At least it looks nice. |
I got the similar 8GB one from "shopping-wang2008" ebay seller. I am not sure whether it's really 8GB or not :(
This is my first buy from ebay.com and after so much of struggle to save that 20$. I really feel bad as all my hard earned gone waste if it's not 8GB. everyone in my school has original nano and it's always my dream to buy one, but I can't offer one..so, I went for this look alike model..just to make myself happier :( Do we have any firmware for this model as mine says act2025e_v54, 9.5.54 version? |
