I messed around with it for a while, I finally ended up erasing all the partitions with Paragon by accident... Then I had to use the HP utility to format it again in a way that the BootIt program and the mp4 utilities program would recognize it. I eventually went into the mp4 disk tool thing and started messing with the re-format and partition tools. Like you, it would only work if I formatted the 'normal' space to about 17mb. I messed around in BootIt some more, but that didn't help, so I went back into the format tool and started playing with the re-partitioning thing. I found that I can get it to work just fine, unless I format it's normal space bigger than about 1gb, so I'm thinking I might have a 1gb player.
I have the same chipset and firmware as you, but I haven't cracked it open to look at the actual chip yet, so I'm not sure if it's real memory or not. Sure seems hacked to me...
I guess i'll just keep trying.
thanks for your help
