Disk error after format with HP tool

I just got a ipod nano clone, it says it has 8gb of memory. I was skeptical, so i thought i'd follow the instructions to try to format it. The tool that came with it didn't work, so I tried the HP format tool. Now, every time I try to use it, it says 'disk error' .
It was working before, but i screwed up the hacked partitions. How do I reverse this?

Formatting in any format with Paragon, the HP tool, lexar usb format, windows, or anything does no good.

I got it to work, mostly. I had a couple of problems with the Mp4 Disk Tool not recognizing the partitions on the mp4's disk, but I fixed that by formatting it with the HP format tool thing... but that's not usually a problem for people. If you can format the mp4 player using the MP4 disk tool thing, do this:

Open it up, and google the part number on the Nand Flash chip. I was able to figure out that mine had 1gb.

Next, subtract that from the total amount of space that the Disk tool says you have.

Then, move the slider over until the encrypted partition is the size of the fake memory, or until the 'normal' partition is the actual size of your mp4 player. Then do a full format/repartition.
You'll know if you got the size wrong, because you'll end up with either 'Disk Error' or continuous 'emtpy disk' messages.

If you don't want to open it up, you can use the disk tool to figure out how much memory it has. First, slide the slider all the way to the right. then, slide it to the left a little bit and reformat. Then copy something to the disk and see if your mp4 will play it. If it does, slide it to the left more, reformat again, and test it again. Keep doing this until you reach the point on the slider at which the mp4 player stops playing your files. For me, it was 7146 encryped, 1024 normal.

Basically, if you make the 'normal' partition bigger than the actual amount of memory your player has, it won't be able to read it.

I also thought it was kind of annoying that the mp4 player would pop up with two disks, when i knew that one of them was just hacked memory. I went into the 'online mode' menu, where you can tell it to just display the normal partition, so now it just shows up as a 1gb drive. Which is good, because that's what it is.

Here's some more random info i've been able to figure out about these players:
The firmware is 9.5.54, which you would think would be as easy as 9.1.52 to extract from the player, but since it's one of the new AK202x chips, you can't. Well, not yet anyway, but I've heard that the s1res people are working on a new version that will extract version 9.5.x and 11.x.x

Also, they seem to all have different actual memory capacities. The board has space for two NAND flash chips. Mine was a Dynix d27uag8t2mtr, which isn't widely used, but appears to be a 1gb chip. However, a lot of these players apparently have Hynix (hmm, interesting name similarity) chips with 2gb. Also, some have 512mb, I think. But so far, I haven't heard of any with more than that. So be warned. The particular players i'm talking about are the slightly newer Ipod Nano 5th gen clones, the ones that actually look a lot like the Nano inside and out. They even made the menus the same color. They're marketed as 8gb or 16gb mp3/mp4 players, usually.
