Dead mp4 with Rockchip 2608a

1 Attachment(s)
This is a last resort post folks. I have the following player. At least I hope you can see the picture. So, I panicked the other day when I found loading too many tunes into it caused it to corrupt the file. I got deeper into a sticky mess, tried to rescue it with firmware, now I have a nice white screen player. So, the white screen comes on once it's connected to the usb, the pc sees it as a drive but can't format it. On disk management, it's also seen as a usb device and shows Rockchip. I have followed the recovery guide to no avail. I cannot get my player to see itself adfu device, try as I might. I'm told that the driver the player has is the best driver. When I try to run mp3 untilities it won't see the player. What more can I try, or is it well and truly dead?

As you have found out already It's not a adfu device, It's a Rockchip.
and Mp3 Utilities doesn't work for Rockchips.

Do you already have the right firmware?, if not you need to find a working firmware for your player.

PLEASE try the SOFT Dead player recovery procedure below, it could save you a lot of hassle opening up your player:-

All you do is this,

1) Switch the player OFF using the main on/off switch.

2) Hold down the "MENU" or the "PLAY" button and keep it held down.(try the other buttons if these dont work)

3) Connect the usb to the player.

4) Wait for about 10 seconds before releasing the menu key.

5) You are now in "RockUSB" upgrade mode!

6) Then just Start ConsumerUpdate and upload a working firmware and try it!

ConsumerUpdate should also REBOOT the player before starting the upgrade.

Thanks for your help but I now have no firmware in the device. I tried doing what you suggested but the Update tool doesn't even see it as connected. On the device itself, I simply have a white screen. When I take the usb connector out the white screen remains, the off/on button has no effect and to turn it off I have to push the little reset button. I'm now completely lost.

Ok. Now you need to try a hard recovery. The how-to guide is here:-

Good Luck!

Hello,

Thanks again for your help. Well, I've followed the instructions to the letter. I hear the clung, clung on the unit coming on line when connected although it doesn't come up with a pop-up window telling that's the case. I attempt to then update it using product tool dog but it always comes back with "Not found any ROCK USB device". What concerns me also, is that I'm not able to format the player. I've tried a range of format options and each time it's unable to format. I guess, unless there is anything else you can suggest, I truly do have a dead machine on my hands. Such a shame.

I should add, that on disk manager via the control panel and under usb devices, I can see the player and it says Rockchip. When I disconnect it, it disappears from the list as well.

It should be possible to recover, but it can take while and many attempts.
Have a look at this guide:-
You need to be in RockUSB mode first.
Double click on the remove hardware icon in your system tray.

If you are in RockUSB mode you will see the icon in the window like this:-

You MUST be in RockUSB mode to change your firmware.

To get into RockUSb mode
1) switch the player off.
2) hold down the menu key.
3)connect the USB cable
4) wait a few seconds
5) release the menu key
6) look for the RockUSB icon.

7) If you see the RockUSB icon, load the CORRECT firmware for your player using Consumerupdate program.

It this fails then as a last resort I suggest you do the Hard Reset already described to get into RockUSB mode and load the CORRECT firmware for your player using Consumerupdate program.

You will need to open your player to do the HARD reset, but only try this if you are confident with opening your player or you might break something!

You may find it easier on your player to try shorting the following 2 pins:-

These are the actual pins (posted on a Chinese website) which have also been found to need shorting to get into RockUSB mode, use tweezers or a small jeweller's screwdriver..

This would force the player into RockUSB mode upgrade mode, but you MUST look for the RockUSB icon

Once again, many thanks for your help. Well, I've had the back of the player off, I've done a hard reset, looked at add/remove hardware and there it is, rockchip usb. At this stage though, the player (which was only a white screen) is off, although the usb is conncected. I then go to consumer update and attempt to load firmware. It really is a bit of a guess but I am attempting to use the ONDA firmware VX858LE but it looks like it's going to do it then it say data writing fail. Let me also say, the player is not appearing on my computer on the list of drives, I guess because it's off. If I turn it on and then go to consumer update it then tells me it can't find the device. Pulling my hair out now. Your help would be appreciated.

Player should be off. You don't see the drive 'cos you are in RockUSB update mode.
If consumerUpdate has found the RockUsb device you are nearly there, if it fails then maybe try another firmware.
I think you was close, if you see the RockUSB icon then you are ready to flash the firmware.

Further to my last report, I have downloaded refresh firmware 3.1.2.0. As I say, I do the re-boot the screen of the device is off but the add/remove hardware sees it and the update firmware program sees it. I then select some firmware (it seems that it will only see .rfw firmware, is that right?) It then updates the firmware and says update successful. Sadly, I can't turn the player on from the switch and when I disconnect and reconnect the usb, I just get white screen. Then because the update firmware program can't see the usb device (or the add/remove hardware icon), I then have to do a hard recovery again, you know, shorting the pins. That bit is okay, I can do that, it's actually getting the firmware into the device I can't fathom and why won't it power up and why when I do, does it no longer see the device. More hair being pulled out.
