Default How to know if there is a hardware problem?

Hi!

I was trying to fix an MP4 Player:

- It doesn't turn on
- Windows doesn't recognize it (does nothing when I plug it to the PC)

The memory chip is Samsung. I tried to put it in ADFU mode but I couldn't do it (Tried both ways cited in the "recover dead players" guide) . The only thing I could do (after trying hard) was to make the LCD turn on. However nothing happened in windows. I noticed that the memory chip got warm as I tried to make it work.

Am I doing anything wrong? Do you think that this could be repaired by software or it would be a hardware problem?

Thanks
