Exclamation Dead player, need firmware......i think?

So here is the story...

Have this 8gig chipod that was given to me, just a usb cable and device..... I finally started playing around with it trying to use it, and the music would get corrupted, and a couple times when I turned it on there was just NO files on it...but when plugged in still showed files....

Wasn't able to find much online about the device, (hadn't found this site yet, but had found s1fw) so I thought maybe I need to format it, or redo the partitions since there was a 1meg and a 8gig partition....Did that in linux, since at the time Windows wouldn't even see the device.
Poof, dead player, just had the hourglass and would keep resetting....

decided to do more digging...Found this site, followed the dead player recovery, and then windows would see it...At this point I had
Code:
Removable drive in windows (unable to format)
Hourglass on screen
When trying to flash with the firmware from the how-to, gave error msg, so I grabbed a random one and it worked...

So since the player was still un-usable I tried a few other firmware, and managed to make the screen stop working...just black...
Then I got it to turn on backlight, but still black...

And now I am at the point of...
Code:
Removable drive in windows
17.3meg writable partition
944meg writable partition
black screen, no backlight
I do not know exactly what I need to do at this point, since I do not have a "dump" of what was on it...most of the features did not work anyway, or was unable to test. the player, FM radio, did work.

This is what I know about it...
Screen: sh-bw017-01c 08/03/31
PCB: GOLZI g-18a_key_v0.6 2007.12.08
AK1025
Firmware when working had 25002 in it, with a date....and was version number 9.1.52

This is what the outside looks like (notice it does say ipod)

and this is the guts

Do I just need to find the right firmware? I have issues with the S1fw.com - Mp3|Mp4|Mp5|PMP|Player Firmware! as if never seems to have the firmwares I try to download....So I have been downloading them from here, and the old mirror

I do apologize for the giant post, but after messing with this thing for about 9 hours today alone, I thought I would include as much information when I decided to post, to help prevent the "what does this say" or "does it look like ..." type replies...

Any help would be much appreciated..

Sid
