I still do not believe that overwriting the memory affects the firmware. Does anyone else agree? The memory is corrupted, but the firmware is OK.
Try some things--insert a memory micro SD card in the player and see if it can be detected and written to.
Did you try the free program--http://pcdisk.com/download.html which might be able to reformat your player.
Download the Active@ Partition Manager (Freeware version) It can see drives that XP and Vista cannot see.

Hi,

I inserted a micro SD of 2 GB, and tried the following:
1) Only press power-up (nothing happened)
2) Press continuously power-up and connect to PC. The Pc detects the ADFU device
-No disk is detected.
-In order to validate (or not) your assumption that the device wants re-format, I went to disk manager in order to find the device. Note that if the device was detected as a disk, but no drive appeared on 'My computer' it may happen due to bad partitioning. I opened disk management but as you can see in the following picture the device is nowhere to be found. That means, that no partition software can do something on this device. If there is no disk, then you cannot create a partition.

I may try to find a linux computer to plug the device there to see if a disk may appear there, but I am pretty sure that nothing will appear.

I will try to check your suggestion too, just to eliminate also this option.

I am still open at any other suggestions or things to try.

Thankx m8.

You still have not used the Active@ Partition Manager Here is a picture of my player like yours......

I have just tried the program and as I was expecting, nothing was detected (attached image).
The MP4 is not recognized as a disk drive but as an ADFU device, which requires its firmware
to be rewritten.

I strongly believe the only way to revive it to write a firmware but I cannot find a tool and a firmware for it.

Thankx,

BB

Do you know (or does someone know) how to read the firmware off of my working player? I would be glad to send it to you if I could.

Hi wkmoccoy,

can you try something of the following?

1) Continuous press the power-on button and as you press the button connect to PC and check
if the unit is detected as ADFU or as unknown device or as Mass Storage device

If it is found as ADFU or unknown device do you know how to locate the Vendor ID (vid) and Product ID (pid) from device manager to compare with mine?

2) Download this tool that in another forum somebody suggested that can recognize the device

http://bigb5.homeftp.net/MP4/new product tool for atj2137n.rar

and see if it can detect your unit. I am not sure though, whether your unit should be
in ADFU mode or in normal connect. Can you try both?

Thankx for your will to help,

BB

Hi,

I have not found a solution to this problem yet...

Any new suggestions?

Thankx,

BB

When I tried your suggested link to a new tool, it reported an error of address. Also, the atj2137n.rar file is just the .pdf schematic of the CPU. I did appreciate getting that. I did not find anything that would allow me to extract the firmware.
