Default Nano clone won't detect on PC

Hello everyone,
My step father gave me a knock off 16GB (supposedly) ipod from China that he didn't have time to get to work. The problem lies in that it is completely undetected when I plug it into any PC. The device itself will show that it's charging, but it is otherwise impossible to access. I have searched accross the internet, but my problem is that most solutions require for access to the device.

Here are some pictures:

The player itself

Close up of ATJ2237T Chip

Audio and USB jacks

Device starts up fine and the menu seems to work fine, except for a check disk option that just causes it to shutdown. The booklet that came with it just says "Give me five" as the name and is otherwise no help at all.

Any help is greatly appriciated!
