Default 2.8'' Touch Screen Mp4 bricked, help appreciated

Good day guys!

I have a player that looks like this:

Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.

Unfortunately enough I managed to format it in Windows, now it boots
up but hangs on a 'generating database' load bar. This leads me to believe
that the firmware's corrupted and needs reflashing. However, the device is not
recognized by windows at all, when plugged in it goes through its title screen-
'Generating database' procedure and hangs. Whats even more disturbing is the battery doesn't seem to be taking charge, but auxiliary power gets it alive still.

I have tried holding the power/volume down buttons whilst plugging it in, and a few other combinations to no avail. How do I get it into a boot/disk mode?

Best regards
B

Have you tried to use the reset button (on the back of the unit between camera lens and other edge). Often this will make it boot back up in a proper manner.
