Coby MP601-8G
I recently purchased a coby video mp3 player which appears to have an ALi chipset. I had found one tool on the forums that allowed me to connected to the device and read it's firmware, however what I interpreted as a button to backup the firmware instead erased it. Not to worry I have a second player which I could extract the firmware from but I need to ensure I do it correctly.
Download ALi Corp. M710x ISP Tool 1,47,17 - M7107 + M7108 MPTool v1.41.1 - MyMPx I don't know the forum rules for posting links I'm sorry if I break a rule iPhone is terrible to read off of. The link is the tool I used. Upon reading I'm assuming it tried to write the incorrect firmware to the device. I appriciate any and all help people can give. Advice on how to extract the firmware would be very appreciated. The mp4 player is the Coby MP601-8G. |
I did some digging yesterday and found on Cobys website a firmware upgrade for their MP610 product. It was packed with similar tools to the M710x ISP tool and MPTool however the MP610 appears to use the ALi m566x chipset while the Coby MP601 seems to use the ALi m710x chipset. The tools that were included with the MP610 firmware did not work with the Coby MP601. I tried using the MP610 firmware on my device using the M710x MPTool but it did not correct the problem.
Also I discovered that the Coby MP601 can be booted into a bootloader USB mode by holding the volume button down and plugging in the USB cable. |
Well stupid me managed to put the second mp3 player I've obtained through the wash. Considering it wouldn't play audio anymore I decided to pop open the device. The solder pads for the headphone jack all lifted off the board and I cant fix it.
Either way I wrote down what all the chips said. ALi m7108E AI 1028 TG51 XELGA/70000GA AIRONA AR1010 A062521 101959G TOSHIBA AR5635 TH 8NVG6D2E A20 Maybe this will be of interest to some people. Its possible I copied the information incorrectly as well since the print was very small and kind of faded. Also this device will play AVI videos, but they have to be encoded in MJPEG and the header as well as metadata of the file needs to be specific and exact. I'm unsure how to describe it any further than that. There is a tool called "VideoConverter" that converts to MTV that can also convert to the specific AVI format. |
