Default Any hope for my seemingly dead Hyundai VP+118?

Hi guys,

I was in Beijing the other day and after losing my iPod Nano while travelling, thought I'd pick up a cheapo MP3/USB Flash Stick player to keep me going until I return home in a month or so (figured I'd lose another iPod if I bought a new one, and besides apparently there is a new one around the corner). I found a device called a Hyundai VP+118 with 2GB. It's exactly what I was after in that it is a light MP3 player that is a little larger than a normal flash USB stick - which means later on I can bring this around with me everywhere I go - well that was the plan.

I would try and return it but I am no longer in China, so I don't have that option.

So everything was going great, until I tried to transfer some files to it on Windows XP. Files transferred OK, but then with the device still plugged in, I saw something on Windows XP saying that the hardware had encountered an error.

When I checked the device, nothing would happen. Would not turn on any longer - it was completely dead.

I thought first of all that possibly the somewhat dodgy/old computer I'm using here in an internet cafe might have zapped it with a power surge or something.

However, after plugging it into my laptop (not the internet cafe computer) for about 10 minutes I noticed the original start screen was displaying, however when pressing buttons nothing would happen.

I took it out and pressed all the buttons on it, nothing happened. Plugged it in again, and after nothing happening for 10 minutes or so I looked at the MP3 player and there was a symbol appearing on the device that looked like it was trying to depict the MP3 player and a computer with 'z z z z' (like it was sleeping) coming out of it.

When I removed the device from my Macbook the 'z z z z' display kept appearing until I switched it off, and when I restarted it nothing appeared.

I actually really like the size and features this player has and would love to get it working again. Anybody have any hints as to what I could do?
