Need some information before upgrading

Hello,

I received yesterday my new unbranded mp3 player. I went into system information and learned that it was a RK27SDK. I really want to make a firmware update because my current one seems to be old.

People says that I need to disassemble my device to get some plate and screens numbers. I dont like this idea very much and i did what others said too : use ChipGenius.
Here is his log :

Quote:

Device Name: +++[G:][I:][J:]+Périphérique de stockage de masse USB(RockChip USBDISK Sys USB...

PnP Device ID: VID = 071B PID = 3203
Serial Number: USBV1.00
Revision: 1.00/1.00/1.00

Device Type: Standard USB device - USB2.0 High-Speed

Chip Vendor: RockChip
Chip Part-Number: RK260X

Product Vendor: (N/A)
Product Model: MP3 Player

Tools on Web: (N/A)
And here is the exact link of the ebay page where i bought it :

http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=200282274236

My question is : do i have enought information to begin a firmware upgrade ? Or do i need to open up my mp3 player ? And if it's ok, do ou have a link for a compatible firmware ? (I checked s1fw.com, but there is no firmware for RK27SDK but only for RK27SDK-SWK)

Thanks a lot for your help and knowledge

Re: Need some information before upgrading

We need to be sure which Rockchip you have, Rk2608 or Rk2706.
RK2608 you can't back up, RK2706 you CAN back up.

If it's a RK2706 you should be able to make a backup by coping rkusb.tag over to the player and doing a reboot.

look here:-
http://www.mympxplayer.org/firmware-...s-vt10856.html

Please go into the player's setting menu and post the firmware version number.

Don't try to do an "Upgrade" until you have done a backup, you risk killing your player!

Thx for your anwser ! I already did a backup. I used the rkusb.tag and then i copied all the 60meg partition (where firmware is located) to my computer. It's enought for a backup right ?

SO if i understood right, i have a RK2706. I dont like it but i'll open it up to be sure. I will post my observation here after did this :)

Don't open up your player! , your player is RK2706, If you have all 4 folders safely copied over then you should be ok to try this firmware:-

I believe it is the latest, but you may find it doesn't work and you need to put your old firmware back on again!

Good Luck

Ok i opened it. It's a RK2706. I've taken picture of all the chip and motherboard. The screen is glued to the motherboard so no way to get a seriel number from it.

So i've to get a firmware for RK2706 that's right ?

Edit : Just see you anwser now  But now it's done, i didnt damaged it so no problem :)

Yes it must be RK2706 and from a touch screen player that looks like yours, heres one:-

Just my last question : i donwloaded this firmware, do i need to use MP3 Player Utilities to flash it or i just make a copy paste on the 60meg partition ?

Because in the MP3 Player Utilities tutorial, they say that i need a .bin file to flash, and in the firmware there is a lot of bin !

Just copy and paste, then restart your player, "MP3 Player Utilities" are not to be used for Rockchip players.
