Unhappy Need help in upgrading Skytex firmware to version 1.1

I just got a Skytex Primer ereader, andit is fine. However, it is not supporting DRM ebooks. from my searches, I understand that the version 1.1 od the firmware is supposed to support it. I downloaded the files, and am running everything under Windows 7, as a local admin, so no limitations on the ports, etc...... I followed the isntructions in the firmware doc, but when I try to run this Erase IDB button, I getn an error message: "Erase IDB failed". I read on this web site about the different firmwares used on those chipsets. How can I upgrade the firmware in another way ?

I know that this device is based under Linux, and some partitions are more visible under Linux. I did not try anything under Linux just yet, but I know and use Linux on a daily basis, so if there are upgrade tools under Linux that may work better, I'm ready to give it a try. Although I'm good at Linux, I never played with firmware upgrades and such chipsets.

Thanks :-)

Hey dude, congrats on the Primer (it's awesome! I have one too!)

Most likely the reason you're running into trouble upgrading the firmware is that you did NOT install the drivers from the website. There may be some discrepancy between the drivers Windows installs when the device is connected and the driver downloadable from the website.

For me, I (not wanting to brick the device) uninstalled the drivers that installed when I first connected the device, restarted, and installed the drivers downloaded from Skytex.com and followed the directions from the website for installing the update.

1.1 works pretty well, though I've not tested it on DRM-protected media.

I would recommend to you that whether or not you upgrade the Skytex Primer, search Google for DRM removal programs to strip the books/files you've purchased into non-DRM formats. This will greatly increase the chances of getting the files to work properly on the device (and you can always save the original DRM purchase as a backup!)

Hope it works out ok!

Hello there. I found this post on Google while searching for a similar issue ...

I have the Skytex Primer Colour eReader, and was going to do the new Driver & Firmware Update but I've ran into a small issue.

I have Windows 7 - 64 bit. I used the Device Manager to remove the old Driver, but when I choose the new one, it just tells me that the one I have is the latest and won't instal the new one.
I check the system info in the eReader and it is still at version 1.0

Is there another way to go by updating the driver?

I got some good aid through their Tech Support and got it working!

The first attempt actually crashed right after formatting and then I couldn't get the reader to even open up via the USB.

I then searched the Device Manager for anything that was causing issues as I was a little worried at this point! I found one that I don't remember having previously under the Portable Devices and Other Devices ... removed them both and then pressed Re-Set

Then I plugging the reader back into the USB and it began search for a driver. I cancelled that and chose it manually via the Device manager. From there I ran the Firmware Update as a ADMINISTRATOR and all went 100& Smooth!!
