Havent had the time to try harrysmiths mid-solution.

Oh U2 have heard that? ;-)

I managed to do the needle trick (unsoldered the battery) and get the USB device recognized. I am using the Primer driver, modified as per following earlier instruction: If the driver is not detected use a generic rk281x of other manufacturer but changing in the .inf file the vid and pid for the ones I mentioned above.

But I am not able to see any drives, So how do I get to the hidden folder and instalkl the image?
Any ideas, anyonne?

Hello,

My ebook is based on rk2738.

The firmware SKYTEX primer don't work on it !!!
I have update my ebook with RK28Upgrade v1.27
I have tweak the setting.ini in Upgade Tool folder to match my device.

Code:

[DEVICE_ID]
VID=0x2207
PID=0x273A

I used rk28usb driver and change in rk28usb.inf PID and VID to match my ebook value.
If you have "download boot fail" error message REBOOT your computer !
Finally i have restore my original firmware.
Fortunately have backup the 3 partition of my ebook.
To make firmware *.bin file i go to my linux computer and make :

sudo mount -o loop Primer DRM firmware.img myfirmware/
cd myfirmware
sudo rm -rf  *
sudo cp -r ~/SVG-EBOOK/157Mo/ ./
cd ..
sudo umount ./myfirmware

My backup firmare

If you failed update don't remove battery just short pins 29 and 30 on Hynix and plug usb.

It seems that you are finally the anwser to our problems.
How do I know the vid and pid from my reader so that I can change the driver and upgrade tool.

I have used SniffUsb 2.0 SniffUSB 2.0 for Windows XP
In mass storage mode you can view [MSC_ID]
In switch mode you can view [DEVICE_ID]

My bad luck, I have windows 7.
But I think the program still works, because in the begining it says "loading XP driver" and it shows me all my other usb devices. The problem is that I cant find the ebook.

Can you send me your .inf and .ini modified? Or post it within the forum post?

It keeps telling that the driver is not found in the folder.
It can really be the VID and PID problem.

FINALLY !!!!!!

After several months it lives again.
Thanks Chupito and Harrysmith (from another site) and all that tryed to solve this out.
So, my steps:
1- Open the device and checked that in fact was a RK2738 chip
2- Open RK28upgrade 1.27 with the alterated .inf (driver) and .ini (RK28upgrade 1.27) to VID=0x2207 and PID=0x273A
you can also download the already driver prepared from chupito a few post above. It is for Win7 but if you have XP or other just make the changes like I said.
3- With a small (really small) screwdriver short the 29 and 30 pins of the Hyvix chip like its done here: Rockchip DEAD Player Recovery Guide
4- With the screwdriver touching both 29 and 30 pins, connect the usb cable to the ebook reader. IMPORTANT: you have to keep shorting the pins while inserting the usb plug on the reader. Now wait for the PC to recognize RK28usb. If it says unrecognized probably is because you arent shorting the pins at the same time.
5- After it recognizes RK28usb you can let the screwdriver out of the pins and keeping the usb cable on, open RK28upgrade 1.27.
6- Click on the "image path" button and choose the img file. Chupito provided with his file above, wich worked for me.
7- Now click on "upgrade", wait and it's done
