Fantastic. This worked a treat on my MeBook 4gb that I stupidly flashed with the Primer Firmware Upgrade.

Mine has the following chips:
1x Samsung 804 K9HBG08U1M
1x Rockchip RK2738
1x Infineon HYB39S2561600T-7

seeing that the Samsung 804 is a 40 pin chip I tried shorting the pins as shown in this diagram whilst plugging in.

Woohoo - One RK28xx device that came up... at that moment I stopped shorting the pins and then installed the firmware that chupito57 loaded. Thanks for the tip Chupito57 --- really good work

Default Need your help, guys...

Hi there!

First time, I've made everything the same way as duxxyuk and other folks and FW update procedure went just fine. I've used chupito57's FW. But I found that Ukrainian language in this FW is totally useless (the problem with encoding - all characters were like abracadabra).

So I decided to look for another FW. On the 4PDA forum (Russian) I've finally found the one I was looking for. And started the upgrade procedure:

1. Loaded FW into Upgrade tool (RK28Upgrade v1.27)
2. Then pressed "Switch"
3. After a while pressed "Upgrade"

Upgrade started but in a few seconds I've received error message.

Now, the problem is that every time I plug-in the device, Windows (Windows 7, Ultimate, 64 bit) recognize it as "Unknown Device" under USB Controller tree. I was disconnecting all the additional USB equipment (except keyboard and mouse of course ), changing the USB cables without any luck...

I will appreciate any suggestions from your side...

Thank you in advance!

Hi Guys,
I made everything as explained. My e-reader started but the buttons are not working.
I presume that the problem is in the firmware. My e-book is E032H with the RK2738 chip.
If someone has this firmware, I will be very thankful to share it with me.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Hi Binh@MyMPx, I just followed the steps written here.
I had bricked my ebook trying to upgrade with SKYTEX - PRIMER ROM
Had to wait patiently for someone to come out with the solution and Chupito finally did!
Atreyu put the procedure down systematically!
Thanks! Cheers!

Thanks Chupito and Harrysmith (from another site) and all that tryed to solve this out.
So, my steps:
1- Open the device and checked that in fact was a RK2738 chip
2- Open RK28upgrade 1.27 with the alterated .inf (driver) and .ini (RK28upgrade 1.27) to VID=0x2207 and PID=0x273A
you can also download the already driver prepared from chupito a few post above. It is for Win7 but if you have XP or other just make the changes like I said.
3- With a small (really small) screwdriver short the 29 and 30 pins of the Hyvix chip like its done here: Rockchip DEAD Player Recovery Guide
4- With the screwdriver touching both 29 and 30 pins, connect the usb cable to the ebook reader. IMPORTANT: you have to keep shorting the pins while inserting the usb plug on the reader. Now wait for the PC to recognize RK28usb. If it says unrecognized probably is because you arent shorting the pins at the same time.
5- After it recognizes RK28usb you can let the screwdriver out of the pins and keeping the usb cable on, open RK28upgrade 1.27.
6- Click on the "image path" button and choose the img file. Chupito provided with his file above, wich worked for me.
7- Now click on "upgrade", wait and it's done

Sooooooooo
Having read all the posts above I think that there is still hope...

But unfortunately I am not really sure about something and I'm not going to begin playing with my ebook before I am completely assured!

Firstly, I would like to ask Atreyu ; Is the firmware by Chupito57 a differnent (newer) one than the one preinstalled??? I am asking this because my e-book is working (not bricked) and I want to know if all this screwdriving stuff is worthwhile or even necessesary.

Secondly; Since our friend SyavsoN had a problem with the Ukrainian language, do you think it is possible that I will have with Greek as well? )- I'm greek not geek

Hi guys...I also have a rk2738 ebook reader that i bought from ebay.To be more specific that's the device I am talking about :
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
The firmware's name is rockchip v1.0.5.However I have a problem with the letters' formatting on epub and mobi files. For example, all words in italics appear in bold letters and after them the sentence continues in the next line.
I am looking for people who have the device with the same firmware and face this problem. Are there any updated firmwares that solve it?
I was thinking about the primer firmware but I have come to the conclusion that it's not compatible and will brick the device.
Any advice on the matter is more than welcome.
Thank you...

Default E-book reader RK2738

Hello Everybody,
I bought this one (E032H 7" LCD E-Book Reader Media Player w/ Voice Recorder/FM/AV-Out/TF Slot (4GB Flash) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme) and after 1 day the thing died.
I tried to install the OS as explained and the E-book was alive again but the buttons are not available. I think because this OS is not for this e-book.

If anyone has an idea how to repair my e-book, please help! Thank you very much.

I just wanted to say thanks to Chupito57 I was able to get by ebook reader working again! I bricked it upgrading the firmware from 1.05 to 1.10 but it was for an RK2729. Whoops...
Fortunately I was able to use the firmware provided by Chupito57 to get 1.05 back again
If anybody knows of a later version that works with this chipset I'd love to know

Thanks Again
