Default Rk2738

Hello everybody!

I recently purchased an e-book (a chinese unbranded one) whose firmware doesn't seem to be good enough for my purposes...I bought it just to be able to read books but it seems that when you zoom-in there are problems ,either with the scrolling of the page, or even with the turning of the pages...Not to mention the sluggishness...

Despite having searched the whole forum and tried to update the firmware of this device with both skytex and MiGear firmware, I always get stuck when I press "Switch"... I think that I'm missing a USB driver...

However, I managed to make the hidden partitions appear (thanks to Nicolas72) but there is always the same problem...

So, my questions are
-Is it possible that I have bought something equipped with new chipset ???(The chip inside the device reads RK2738 and googling hasn't heped a lot thus far. I had to uncrew the cover to see what the chipset was because in the system information it just says "Rockchip")

-Do I have any chance of ever finding a suitable firmware? or a USB driver to continue the firmware upadtes of either the skytex one or the MiGear????

(The USB driver found inside the zip files of both firware packages doesn;t seem to work for me. I'm quite experienced with upadting drivers but this one has taken a toll on me!!!)

Every opinion will be much appreciated!

Nikolas, Hellas

Unfortunately I've tried almost every possible combination an available downloadable material, and still nothing works...I 'm going to give another try using Windows 7 (instead of XP)...

If I find a way to do it, I'll send you a message!

I've sent an email to Rockchip, but they told me that they just make the chips.
Then I found one factory in Senghey (or something like that) in China, but still no answer.
This is a tuff one guys.

Indeed...
But sooner or later those products containing this chip will swarm the market, so there is still a hope that somebody will come up with a solution

Hello again,
I found this post on another forum:

"Using the needle trick for RK27 or RK28 devices. (look up at youtube or lots of tutorial over internet) finally I have a class for RK28USB with VID_2207 & PID_273A. With this codes from USB the drivers for RK28 devices works.

Additionally to this trick the battery must be desolded because this device has no power off bottom to be completely disconnected.

Now I just need an appropriate bootloader to put in the device and a correct firmware. The correct firmware I have it, becuse I have a backup copy of my original.

I will continue reporting my advances ..."

Anybody knows what this means and does it help on our case.
P.S. Sorry to the original poster (harrysmith) but if it really means some progress with this problem i think it should be shared allover this kind of forums.

I asked Harrysmith for additional instrutions and this is what he replied:

"Atreyu,

lok in you tube "how to ubrick apad" and in the part 5 video is the way to do it. I needed to unsolder the battery as thios device has no real power buttom.

Once you do it your device will be detected as VID_2207 & PID_273A. If the driver is not detected use a generic rk281x of other manufacturer but changing in the .inf file the vid and pid for the ones I mentioned above.

There are two sections in the driver information, change only the one in the MSC section. After doing that the device will be in rock usb mode or MSC mode and it will be possible to install the firmware. My problem now is that I have no correct firmware. I have a backup of the two partitions that appear when you use the htc0001.tag file. Nevertheless, I have no correct bootloader I suppose. I have tried several 2729 but without success.

I hove soon somebody with this device can make a backup copy of the full firmware image.

I hope this information will help. I know that lots of people is having this problem."

I'll be following this steps on the coming weekend, but there is still the problem he told about the bootloader. Still with this, we can get a little bit forward to solving this issue.

P.S. Harrysmith tryed to register himself in this forum, but he never received the confirmation mail. So, if any admin see this, it would be nice to check this out.
