Default same firmware for the platinum's and updates available?

Question.

1. Is there an update to the Full Metal version of the player?
2. Does it use the same firmware and software that the any of the paltinum's use?

I read somewhere that the software does not allow you to select specific songs from a folder. Is this correct. Is the only option then to play what is in the folder in order that the folder has it in. Any ability for play lists?
If no? do we think future firmware upgrades will address that? Seems to be a big drawback from a use percpective. Not a true clone of an IPOD then right? Just trying to understand the limitations. Great price and seems to get decent reviews....

Picked one up for my daughter and son. Want to be ready to answer questions if I can and set it up before XMAS for them..

Thanks for any info you can provide....

gbakakos, Do not expect any firmware upgrades for no brand players like these. Name brand Chinese manufacturers like Unibit, Degen, Ainol, Newman etc will spend money on research and development to fix and improve the firmware for their players but the no brand manufacturers just spew them out model after model. As new components become available newer versions of firmware start appearing but they are not compatible with other version players.

For example player with version 3.2.16 firmware can very rarely be upgraded to 3.5.35. A 9.0.43 player will not run with a 9.0.48 firmware. The biggest killer of these players is that they have the upgrade facility, the first thing that people do is try to upgrade and brick their players.

All players have the ability to browse folders, some can also browse files but generally you do not know till you get them. File browsing became available when version 3.5.37 players started to appear but not all 3.5.37 players have the feature.

No playlists support as yet.

I suggest you have a browse through the Knowledge Base as there are some guides that will help as the instructions that come with the players are confusing and poorly translated. One of the guides will show you how to extract the firmware from your player to create a backup. This is a must as if you have any problems with the player you will need it. The only limitation to the backup process is if the players are using firmware version 9.0.48 or 9.0.50 these are used on the newer chipsets and as yet there are no tools to backup these versions.

Hope this helps.
