Full Metal Platinum 1.8 2GB...

I just ordered a Full Metal Platinum 1.8 2GB in Red from Uxcell!

After reading loads on this great site and making sure I would actually be getting 2GB, I decided on this one, due to its great looks!

Full metal platinum

Also got a red dock thing with speakers to go with it. And a cute little headphone eater: Headphone Eater

a few questions:

Is the headphone plug on the top or the bottom?

Is it 3.5mm headphones?

If I want to have a go at changing the themes etc am I able to use any ones already made or do they have to be 1.8 inch ones? I know the firmware is new on these ones and it isnt possible yet or something (havent read up on that yet)

What are they like at playing videos and viewing pics? Is it ok to watch a film or tv shows? (dont really mind about this, I want it for the music more)

I shall write a review when I receive it and I be happy to contribute to the site by uploading firmware or whatever, as it has been useful to me :)

hi m8, about changing themes, if your lucky to get old stock u will be able to, if u have newer firmware version you cannot change the themes, i watch tv shows sometimes on my own player an its only 1.5inch, ("URL Removed by Moderator" is were i got mine from) , it runs alright if theres nowere else to watch it hehe , they are 2.5mm headphones, i think the full metal version has the headphone port at the bottom

Hi Matt,

As far as I know these new ones have a proper 3.5mm phone jack, unlike the previous versions, which have a 2.5mm version. I would very much like to hear your opinion of it once you get it as I have been perving on these new ones too!! The firmware could be 9.0.48 or higher like the Super i Platinum players (my type). These new FW are not YET upgradable until the software for it is made compatible. On my Super i Platinum I was a litttle disapointed with the click wheel and screen orientation for display, it is sideways as I discovered when I cranked mine up as it never mentions these Important bits on the Uxcell site

I would HINT  that the web designers for Uxcell mention this important info for all players instead of a VERY generic description covering every type of player :P

The battery may be an issue as I am not sure if the China Pod manufacturers have bothered to up spec anything other than the cool :P new look. Oh and the new type of Head Phone Jack. Food for thought :?

Let us know how you go when it arrives!!

Cheers

The display is sideways?

Hmmmm, well they should say it on the site really. I guess I can live with it. I would want videos to be played sideways as they could then be widescreen.

Do you think that when people start hacking into them they'll be able to make it display the way you would expect?

Hi matt,

I dont know about the brand new full metal versions, this may be different than my model. I was sorta thinkin the video aspect might have been sideways anyway but the menu and everthing else the right way round!!
Which it is not on my model, and the wheel was also this way round, I turned it back in the hope a FW update might be able to reconfigure the screen orientation, of course the program I DL off this site (waterlilly) to reconfig the button placement still is not compat with the FW 9.0.48 ( emoticon pulling out hair)

Still waiting

I got my blue FM Plat 1.8" today. I love it! The UI is slightly different (better, IMO) than on the 1.5". The quality seems better too (although, after receiving another 1.5" FM in this shipment for my brother, I think that mine shouldn't have passed QC!); the on/off switch is flatter and actually says on/off! Where on the 1.5" the top and bottom are just stickers, on the 1.8" it is actually plastic. I love the screen too, how it is flush with the metal rather than being "sunken in" like the 1.5" and allowing particles to get stuck in it. A worthy upgrade and worth the extra ~$15 IMO!

I've been able to change screen orientation on my Nano clone from regular to sideways, using the latest ver. of AMV, so with the right settings, I imagine you could do the same on your Full Metal Platinum (but you might find things stretched upward a bit). The headphone jack is 3.5mm, that should be listed in the specs. Its in the same location as the apple Nano.
