Default More USB problems with Glacier

I expressed problems I was having with transferring files on my new Glacier in another message here, with the USB registering as 1.1 (unless, as I discovered, I click on a certain line in the alert bubble that pops up).
Besides the varying speed problem, I was also having problems keeping an open USB connection on my machine. I would frequently have to remove and reconnect the USB cable. I tried the Glacier on my GF's computer, and because I had no such problems with my previous MP4 player, I suspected there would also be USB problems on the other computer, and there was. Different problems, though!

There was a similar alert message from Windows saying the USB "could be faster", and I was able to connect anyway. But on her computer, the Glacier would consistently stop transferring in the middle of transferring a folder of mp3's. I could maybe get one folder and a half to transfer at one time, before the drive was no longer seen by windows (even though, strangely enough, the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon was still there in the system tray). Each time I had to remove the cable and reconnect and try again. On my computer, I had already transferred enough files to fill up the player but on my GF's computer, I was simply unable to transfer some of the folders in their entirety, after repeatedly trying.

Thing is, I was just about ready to order another Glacier for her as well, until I actually tried mine on her machine and these USB problems came up. I had already gotten past the fact that the Glacier will not accept many of her present WMA's, MP3 and OGG files (because it only plays certain types of a given format), and now this!

Question: Are others having similar USB transfer problems with their Glacier, or am I to assume that I have a defective Glacier?

michiganjfrog - sorry to tell you that I didn't have the same USB problems that you're having - well, at least not until my glacier unexplicably went completely dead two days ago and now it won't turn on and neither the computer nor the AC adaptor will recognize it. (see topic here) But when it DID work, it worked fine as far as USB transfers.

Even so, it seems like glaciers in general have problems because you're the fifth person on this forum I've seen (including myself) who have had problems with theirs. Right now I'm very upset that mine is dead for no reason and seeking either a full refund or replacement from Uxcell.

*Edit - maybe your problem isn't as serious as mine though. You could try using a new USB cable and see if that solves the problem.

michiganjfrog,

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having with your player.

If you've tried both your computer and yor gf's computer, then I would say it sounds like either a USB problem or the USB connector on the end of your player.

Do you have another USB cable you can use instead to test? You've already tried another computer, so that rules out the possiblity of the computer being the problem.

Try another USB cable if you can, otherwise I would suggest contacting UXcell about this problem on info@uxcell.com.

It seems that the recent spate of problems with the Glacier are from the second batch (after the stock shortage with uxcell). Perhaps uxcell could double check this current batch of Glacier to prevent further problems?

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

Thanks for the concern. I'm guessing that its probably the USB connector on the board, if anything. But it isn't a case where if you "jiggle it right, then it works". No, it had screwy USB transfers out of the box (by "screwy" I mean it would not do USB 2.0 unless you reinserted the cable a second time and clicked on the windows alert bubble), and it will drop the connection after so many minutes, even if I don't move the USB cable or the player at all. I thought this was doing this when the screen saver would kick in after a few minutes (and the screen go dark). I set the "darkle" to 0, so the screen stays on, but that changed nothing. It almost feels like it could be a firmware problem to me, but of course, with no firmware updates in sight, I have no way of trying to fix it that way... At least I have confirmed in 2 ways that it isn't a problem with my computer, so I know what it isn't.

I tried using my digital camera USB (mini USB) but the Glacier USB is non-standard, (probably the same Hirose type used by my old Nano clone, which I no longer have....). I don't want to have to find and order another USB cable just to test this, but I've gome some Nano clones and an iPlatinum from UXCELL on the way, so I'll see if they use the same cable when they arrive. If the cable switch doesn't work, I'll contact UXCELL with the email you gave and see what they will say....
