Full Metal Platinum 1.8

I just oredred this player and I am a little nervous about the quality.
Quite a few posts are about Dead on Arrival Players or unusable battery life.
Can a few of you that have had good experience with uxcell and with this particular model
player, please post on this thread. I am in need of reassurance.

I would Also like to know what people like best about the player.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Ummm.. . it hasn't blown up in my face yet? No but seriously, read my review on the FMP 1.8", where I compare it to the Glacier. Haven't had any problems with it. I think its a great player, more reliable than the Glacier and better performing in some ways. The video is very nice, once you figure out which AMV version and settings to use. Not as rich in color as my Glacier, but smoother than the Glacier, so easier to watch. For the money, I dont see how you can do better.

That makes me feel alot better. Thanks

HI MJF,

Just curious about the menu and video display, are they sideways??As in aspect ratio for video sideways for viewing Widescreen and is the menu for music and settings etc etc the normal way up?? Also is the FW higher than 9.0.48??

Cheers

Re: Full Metal Platinum 1.8

I have the full metal 1.5 2gig and it works great. No issues at all. I just ordered the 1.8 2gig for myself the other 2 were gifts to the kids. I don't think you can go wrong for the price. The video on the 1.5 is set at 128x98 and it's vertical. I noticed the new convert tools allow you to rotate the view. I will give that a try. But mine out of the box displayed vertical from day one.

I did not see much difference from the 1.5 to the 1.8 other than the viewable area. But I understand the menu has changed a bit.

I should receive mine today or Friday and will post a review since I can compare the 1.5 to the 1.8

The screen layout is very clever, actually. Remember, in the 1.8" version, the screen is taller than wider, but when viewing the menus, you view them normal way up, so you don't have to position your player at strange angles to change the settings, etc. Its only when playing a video, that the screen will automatically change the video aspect so that the video plays sideways. This takes advantage of the taller than wider aspect of the screen, and makes widescreen movies especially good to watch on this player.

I don't have it with me to check, but its either 9.0.48 or 9.0.49. And it depends really on your order, because they could upgrade the firmware
by the time you receive yours. I like the new firmware, btw! First, it has the Telephone book missing from my earlier 1st gen Nano clones. Plus it had more games than my other chipods. Second, it has an option to change the menu style. Instead of showing all functions on one screen, you can have a different menu where you only scroll through one function at a time, and that takes up the whole screen. Really nice, no need to mod your firmware, its pre-modded!

Q1:
I'm from canada montreal, I ordered the full metal platinum and it was shipped on FEB 21, normally how long does it take to arrive? I saw some posts say 8 days...

Q2: How is it declared? for customs is it labeled as a "Gift" like when ordering from cellphoneshop.net?

Q3: are there any markings on the player? such as MP4 under the screen?

Q4: what kind of packaging does it some in and what are the accesories?

Q5: I ordered the silver 1.8", but I just want to know where did everyone get the black version with the black "control wheel"

Q6: Where is everyone getting the clip shuffle 2g clone from? there is only one seller on e-bay and he is selling it as the same price as the apple original...

Thanks...

Another dude here from Montreal! Me too. I've posted how long it took, and yeah, I think one time it was 8 days (if you exclude the weekend when the post doesn't work). Its always been less than 2 weeks for me, averaging 11 days total (including the weekend).

Its labelled as an "FM radio player", and they undervalue it for customs (great guys, huh?!). As a result, it ends up directly in my home mailbox like a letter (unless they send it signed for, which they have sometimes done, and I'm not home...), and I have never had to pay a dime for anything (because its only worth $10! As you know, if they put the value over $20, you'd have to pay lots of duties).

You can see my photos of the FMP in the Gallery section, and that of others.

Check out the recent review from "declar??" on the 1.8 FMP. He shows photos of the box and accessories. Its a black mp3/mp4 box with earphones/usb charger/usb cable/cd/manual.

Oh boy.... there's a recent thread on that here, you can read up on it.... It'll tell you, I'm not a big fan of buying that mp3 player, when there are so many better ones to be had at the price.....
