Dead Glacier

What a nightmare my 2GB Glacier has died after only 5 days. The MP3 player was taken great care of. The Glacier reset it self today when i was using it, and it was stuck on the hourglass icon for ages. I tried turning it off and taking the battery out, i also tried turning it on with the play pause button pressed in as someone has said on here. The problem is definately not with the battery as it was fully charged. I just don't know what to do with it, it will probably cost me more to send back to Hong Kong than what i paid for.

Might be the contacts. Check the 3 gold contacts to see if they are making good contact with the battery terminals. Place a piece of paper under the battery opposite side of the contacts to ensure this. If you have a voltmeter, check that your battery is around 3.6v. Is Windows able to see it as a drive?

manutd6899 - I've probably said this a thousand times already, but it seems that glaciers have a common problem of unrealiability. The exact same thing happened to me after only a week and a day of owning my glacier and UXCELL was kind enough to replace it. I would PM Keith, the UXCELL representative here, explain the situation, and ask where to go from there.

Why am I not suprised to find that even BLOWN-Z has a better feedback rating than Uxcell (discounttown) 98.1 to 97.8 in Ebay? And Uxcell doesn't sell bogus players. What then accounts for Uxcell being a less trustworthy seller than BLOWN-Z???

i was planning to buy a glacier but these ever increasing problems reported here, make me think.

manutd6899,

Did you buy your player directly from UXcell or from eBay? If so, when did you make the order and can you post our order number please?

Another question is, have you done anything like try to update the firmware on your player?

Can your player be detected in Windows? If it can, I would recommend formatting it in Windows to see if that helps.

Let us know.

This player was bought direct from Uxcell less than 2 weeks ago. Well, it wouldn't appear in Windows or in the Firmware upgrade utility and the contacts seem fine, and the hourglass won't come up anymore, so the player is completely dead.

I PM Keith (Uxcell) and explained the situation and that it would most likely cost me more money than what i paid for the MP3 player to send it back to Hong Kong. He replied very quicky and has arranged for a replacement apparently.

Also can anyone on here confirm that they have a fully working Glacier from Uxcell that has been working perfectly since day one, because there seems to be lots of problems with it.

Its a shame really because i thought my MP3 player was great, the interface was fast unlike my older Chipod and the video playback was very decent. I just don't understand how the thing broke after just 5 days of light use. And it was definately 2GB memory because mine was full.

But i am very happy with the excellent customer service from Uxcell becuase they have agreed to send another one out less than 24 hours after i PM Keith.

Looks like your problem was solved, the easy way.

Yes, I can. I bought a 1GB Glacier a few weeks before I bought a 2GB one. No problems at all with that Glacier.

Maybe the manufacturer made a certain run where the quality control person was a disgruntled employee who decided only to check 50% of the players on her line. Who knows. Not everyone has had problems with Glaciers, so its a random thing. Note that the casing and all has been made under many different names, including no name. In other words, your friend can have a "Glacier" that looks exactly the same but under a different brand. It'd be interesting to know if those players exhibited better or worse reliability ratios.

I agree the interface is much faster on the Glaciers vs Chipods, the video is very nice and sharp (I believe I can finally watch a full length movie without squinting). For me, the dealmaker is the replaceable battery. I just dont want a player who's battery I can't easily and cheaply replace, including the delicious Meizu. The availability of Nokia based mp4 players is very slim pickin's, and the Glacier is among the better designs I've seen.

Very fortunate for you. Again, kudos to UXCell, very good customer service on their part!

Re: Dead Glacier

Well barring the first dead player i can't fault Uxcell's excellent customer service. My new Glacier was shipped today, now i just need to hope it lasts a lot longer than the 1st one.
