Default Either I am too dumb to own it or something is wrong

I bought this for my daughter. All I can get it to do is play Hotel California by the Eagles. We have tried to add music but it won't . I can't get to any menu but the one that says local folder, delete, delete all, and exit. Hotel California was on it when we got it. Do they usually pre-load a song or does that mean maybe it was a return already?

If someone could very slowly and in simple language explain how to work this thing to me I would really appreciate it. I have tried everything I know to do (which is not much). I freely admit to knowing pretty much nothing about mp3/mp4 other than you put your music on it and then you listen to it lol.
When I try to add music it does absolutely nothing. I add the songs I want to add to the library and then right click on them and send to mp3 player. Nothing at all happens. My computer shows some kind of media storage device being hooked up but that is it.

HELP!!!!

menko, If you select the music files you want (mp3 or wma), right click and select copy. Open the media storage device thet is shown in Explorer or My Computer by double clicking on it.
You should now be able to see all the files that are currently on your player ie, Hotel California etc.
Right click and select New>Folder and rename it Music and then paste the music files you selected into it.
Disconnect the player and go to the Music UI and press menu Find the Music folder and press play. Your player should now be ready to play the new tracks you added so just press play again.

Ok I tried that. I am sorry but I am really dumb with this stuff. I am trying to copy music directly from a cd to the player. I can see the music on the player when I go through the puter but I cannot get to it at all through the player. All I can get to is hotel California. The music folder was already on it so I did not have to create a folder. It was empty. When I copy andpaste it puts it in there but I cannot get to anything with the menu on the mp3 player but local folder, delete, delete all, and exit. If I go to local folder I get root/hotel California.

menko, If you are trying to copy directly from a CD you need to convert and rip the music files to your PC first. There are many apps available to do this or you can use Windows Media Player or Winamp. Do a Google search for CD Rippers and you should find heaps. I personally use Easy CD-DA Extractor but it is not freeware.

I copied it using my media player and did it as a wma. It shows as in the player when I look on the puter but on the actual player I still only can get to hotel california. I am really beginning to dislike hotel california.

menko, What format is hotel california mp3 or wma?
What happens if you put the other music files in the root directory with HC.

I have no clue what type HC is. It was on here when I got it. Evidently the last try worked! It put it in root. I sent it directly from the media player straight to the mp3 player. I guess it will just stick everything in root??? Will that be a problem or will that be ok?

And by the way HUGE thanks! I was about to give up on this. The only kind of player I have is an xm radio to go and a cd player. I am sooo clueless. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!

menko, The only problem you may have is some players have a readable file limit of 99. Any files over this number the player will not read. This can usually be overcome by splitting the files into multiple folders. The other thing that you may want to check is that you have the repeat setting set to normal. You may then find that you can select the music folder.

Awww man ! You mean I have to try to do something else??? LOL j/k. I will try to get to the repeat setting. I will also keep trying to get the music into the actual music file. Hotel California is about to go bye bye anyway. I don't think my 11 year old daughter really appreciates it anyway. I will keep playing with it. At least now I can get some music on it for her. Maybe her or her friends can figure out the rest. They probably know way more than me anyway.

Thanks again you have been beyond helpful. She thanks you too. Now she can play with her new toy.

You already have Hotel California on your player. What else do you need?! (BTW, I got Hotel California with my UXCell FMP as well, so no, its not a used player!) Well, whatever your problems in getting started, don't worry, you will get up to speed with the help of the folks around here. I will try to do my part...

TO BROWSE FOLDERS: You hit the M (Menu) button just for a second (hit it for 2 seconds or longer, and it will always bring you back to the main menu). When the song is playing, clicking M will give you the play options (repeat, equalizer, etc). You need to PAUSE the song to browse, so hit the play/pause button in the center of the wheel to pause. Now click M and you will see LOCAL FOLDER, DELETE, etc. Move selection with fast fwd/rewind (L/R) buttons on the wheel, to put it on LOCAL FOLDER. Now click M briefly, and it will show you the files in the folder that contains the song that is playing. Put the selection bar on "\", and hit M. That will bring you up one level in the folder tree, and show more folders, if they are available. Once you find the file you want to play, hit M on the file. Only hit the PLAY button (center button on the wheel) when you are in the MUSIC screen.

TRANSFER FILES: Drag and drop is easiest, I find. Go into My Computer, and you will see the driver letter that represents your player (after you've hooked it up via USB cable), open that window (not to full size). Now locate the directory that contains the mp3/wma music files you want to transfer. Select them, drag them over the player window, drop. (You do not have to put it into a folder named "music", but as others have said, there is a limit of 99 files per folder, so you cant put 500 songs in the root directory of your player). Just remember, the player is seen by windows like another hard drive, and it works just like your hard drive, as far as folders and all are concerned.

TO COPY CDs: Start out by transferring music files already on your machine, to get the hang of it. Then use a "ripping" software, ie. Audiograbber, to extract songs from CD to your hard drive, then transfer those files (mp3/wma) to your player. You can not do direct transfers from cd to player.

HINT: The next time Hotel California is playing, press down on the M button a few seconds, it will show you the lyrics while it plays the song.
(For songs that don't have lyrics, this will bring you back to the main menu).
